Yeah I will kill you with my asymmetric lapels. Actually going to Japan fashion week this October for work which is a first for me - but yeah, we will have to disagree here. Anyway I do agree that the series was always very fashion focused. In the previous games the enemies could have strolled off an h.naoto catwalk and Dante himself would wear Roen in real life! For me this new imagining leaves me cold - just a bit soulless.
The new reboot is getting an incredible amount of hate from fans. I really doubt it will sell 5-6 million as Capcom are expecting
He lives! Haha. For what it's worth, you pull it off. I'm more put off with what I perceive as the stagnate state of Japanese fashion. The center-gai style and "normal" or whatever you want to call it. Seems it's not changed since the day I got here (in 1998). That and "dressed up" for young people is generally the host look. I wear a nice designer shit w/ jeans and I feel like I'm 50.
Yeah I think every Japanese guy will pass through the host/gyaru-o period at some point in their lives (when they want sex). It is cheap and easy to get into but never under-estimate how much work those guys put in - from the moment they pluck their eyebrows they are pretty much committed to the look till they grow back! And you are right that Center-Gai style never changes. Even though nearby places like 109-2 are very fashion forward what remains popular is the dirt-cheap stuff that Zen Mall, ABC, etc plug each year. Ripped jeans, fake leather/fur boots and a riders jacket. I actually write about Japanese fashion over at http://tokyotelephone.com if you want to see some of the good stuff! (click on the "men" tag)
