Is the system you started with your favorite?

Sadly not. Whilst I once had strong affections for the ZX Spectrum, time has not treated the poor girl well and later machines (specifically the 16-bit era and the Xbox 360) favour much more fairly.

My first console was a Game Gear, and I only ever acquired 3 games for it (including the pack-in game).

Still, the game that gets the most love, and I come back to time and time again is Frontier: Elite II on the PC. (Dear David Braben: where the heck is Elite IV already? :p)

Original gameboy! Man I feel old. Oh and the super nintendo as a VERY close second (although I never played one until I discovered emulators years later).

I selected NO, because my first gaming system was the Commodore Plus 4! Then it was many of those table top games such as pacman and scramble. Then came the consoles, Master System, Mega Drive, Mega CD, SFC, Neo Geo, PC Engine, Saturn, PlayStation (yes, I owned a few because they kept bloody breaking), Dreamcast, Wii and finally my 360. I've also owned various hand helds but none ever last. I'm just not a hand held gamer.

Anyway, my favourite console would have to be the Saturn. so many great arcade conversions and original games. It really was the gamers machine of the time. many will disagree but if you liked your arcade style games rather than computer games then it was the right choice IMO.

My first system was an original Gameboy with Super Mario Land. I thought it was fucking awesome when I first saw it, then my parents made me take it back. They thought I was too young for it, or something. I have never forgiven them for that. So I'm not sure if that counts, cause I only had it for a few days.

But they sorta made it up to me a couple years later by getting me a Genesis. I wouldn't say the Genesis is my favorite console, but I'd say it's up there. My favorite console is probably the Dreamcast, because it has Shenmue. So I'd probably say my favorites are something like 1. Dreamcast 2. N64 3. Genesis.

Yakumo: I've owned several Playstations. I had one in its heyday, and then I sold it. Since I've bought 4, one that was broken, a later version PSX, a Japanese model, and an SCPH-1001 (which I use as a CD player). I've owned multiple PS2's as well. Never had one break, although some of them were broken when I bought them (I wanted them for parts).

First console was the Game Gear, but I really wanted Mega Drive (I was only 8 when I got the Game Gear for Christmas, back in 1991). I loved it, though. The Mega Drive soon followed and was really good fun for many years, but the Playstation and Saturn era were something special to me. I was a teenager at the time and so I can look back with rose-tinted specs, but I remember sleepovers with MicroMachines V3 and C&C red alert (link up) on our Playstations... good times. I had a Saturn before the Playstation and was a real SEGA fan boy, but they didn't have a huge support in the West. I loved Sega Rally to pieces though; still probably my favourite game ever.

The Dreamcast was a funny one. I was so excited and loved it, but the PS2 demolished it. Hardly any friends had a dreamcast, but everyone loved coming around and playing Powerstone 4-player. More rose-tints!

Now I am really digging the 360 actually, with it's exclusive Japanese ports (CAVE) and decent controller and online linkage... I have a PS3 as well but I rarely use that damn thing unless I want to play Wipeout HD.

You know, I've loved the 360 all the time I've had it. I find it has some sort of Dreamcast-ish style to it, too.

It's one of the best platforms I've ever had, and one of my favourite systems of all time. If only it were a little bit more... open, I guess. Why can it not store my MP3 files or images? Why can't I just use any USB hard drive?

I always intended to get a PS3, and never thought I'd ever buy an american console... but when Ace Combat 6 went exclusive, I just had to get it. The fact that the PS3 still cost 11,000 pesos at the time, and the 360 could be had for 4,000 also helped a lot.

While Ace Combat 6 was quite mediocre, owning the 360 has been quite satisfying. The games are pretty cool - the disc based ones a bit generic, but very pretty, and the downloadable ones are fucking amazing. I just wish it had the Japanese quirk of the 32 bit era. Man, those were the days.

The only things I'm missing from the PS3 are the backwards PS1 compatibility (though I still own a PS2), MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles.

So maybe a few years down the line, I'll look at the 360 as one of my favourite old machines.

Started way before consoles, back in the days of home computing.
My first computer was the ZX81, moved onto the ZX Spectrum and ended up developing commercial games for this in my bedroom. That was the start of my career I guess.
For me the ZX Spectrum still remains my favourite platform, I guess it's the nostalgia that I have for those times.

I've emulated the system on various modern(ish) platforms over the years, including the GBA, DS, iPhone, Android - like I said, I love that system and what it did for the UK computing scene.

The Famicom my aunt brought me from Japan (actually she brought it for my cousin but he already had a NES so it spent five years inside a closet until she found it again and gave it to me). Still my favourite, thought my parents sold it when I got my NES...

Hmm, I started with NES but it is not my favorite, but to say which is my favorite system, man that is a really tough question. It is from Nintendo that's for sure, and I could probably say the SNES or N64 would be my favorite. And my favorite handheld the GB Light.

    No, because..... it was a C64 :p

Donkey Kong, Moon Patrol, North & South, Bart vs. the Space Mutants (never made it past the 1st level lol), Elevator Action, Green Beret, H.E.R.O, Lode Runner, Dig Dug, Test Drive, Wonderboy...

Damn, I just realized how great it was back then!!!

My first console was a Gameboy, followed by a Master System II a few weeks later.

Not really. My first gaming memory is watching my uncle play Hang-On on the Master System, and I'm pretty sure I attempted to play it too. A few years later, a different uncle of mine had a Japanese Megadrive with Rainbow Island which I played. The first console I actually owned myself was a Master System followed by a Megadrive 8 months later... yet my favourite console is the Saturn.

Console that really got me hooked on video games and everything that comes with them would have to be the original gameboy.
I remember it well, it was my birthday and i was having a party at the local swimming baths when my mother came round the corner with a large grey box containing a gameboy, mighty max and tetris. To be honest i thought it was gonna be poor until i turned it on and was amazed and have been for the past 17 years or so.
But it is not my favorite system that would have to go to the xbox.
