I find the whole, "TEH WII U LAUNCHED WITH NO GAEMS!!!" thing hilarious.

Hello. Welcome to video game console launches.

I mean, really, the only way someone can legitimately whine about the Wii U launch, is if the only system launch they ever experienced was the Dreamcast (in the US). Xbox360 had a decent one as well. But PS3? PS2? DS? PSP? 3DS? Vita? Wii? None remotely had the quality of the Wii U launch.

Vita certainly had no games on launch. I got my system with Little Deviants which was a serious POS (but was included in the deal) so I was forced to buy Gravity Rush for something to play. Finished and left my system along for a handful of months until new titles were released.

In a sense, Nintendo has created a niche market for those who want to play Nintendo titles- Zelda, Mario, Smash Bros... Judging from the fact that not much of those are out, it won't be selling. When they do though...

I will be buying a Wii U when SSB comes out, no two ways about it. However, I'll buy a used console after the game release so as not to throw money away. You never know, the game could crash and burn.

Nintendo relied totally on the Wii's motion controller gimmick to sell very well despite being a jumped up gamecube, but now they just aren't being seen as a serious game company, more of a family toy company which is fine but the Wii U hasn't got the gimmick that would make it sell like the Wii did.

For some reason they are trying to now claim that their console is seriously trying to compete with the Xbox and Playstation but nobody is taking them seriously including developers, there was loads of rumors of new games coming to the Wii U which are all evaporating, like Metro: Last Light the developers just said the hardware wasn't fast enough for them to port the game to the Wii U in a reasonable amount of time.

So maybe we haven't seen the Wii Us potential but if developers really need to push the hardware to get the equivalent performance from the Xbox or Playstation then what is the point? Why would you release a console now that has similar limits to the 360 and PS3 with no gimmick?

Also if they have gotten a niche for classic Nintendo franchises that's great but only having first party support will not end happily, just ask the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast (In EU and US)...

Yep, like everyone's saying, it'll just take some time. And we already know about all of these wonderful Nintendo exclusives. I'm excited to see the ones they haven't shown off yet... sounds like they're really trying to change Zelda up this time, and I've always loved the 3D Marios. If they do something as cool & different as Super Mario Galaxy, except in HD, then holy cow count me in. Or Super Mario 64 HD would be incredible too. :D

I feel like, at least for me, it won't matter much if PS4 & NextBox blow away the Wii U with visuals. HD resolution and the graphics that accompany it still look really nice, so it seems like a comfortable level for Nintendo to sit at for now. HD Mario & Zelda will look awesome no matter what's happening on the other consoles.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's the attractive bit of a Nintendo console. Not matter the age, it's always fun to sit down with a handful of the good "traditional-Nintendo" titles.

Everywhere I go I hear people give shit to the Wii. Main thing that comes up is the graphics and the comparison to PS3/360, but considering it's specs Wii has done pretty well. What I find surprising is that even retro gamers seem to raise the same point, I thought graphics don't matter too much to them but I guess they do :p

Clearly Nintendo wont see Wii level sales this time. Wii U isnt gonna sell for a long while still, and by the time the big games are out on it, the PS4/720 hype machine is gonna be on full blast.

Still, Id love to pick one up cheap for Wonderful101 and Bayonneta 2.

I'll wait until the system is £150, then I might buy it.

Nintendo wanted more hardcore gamers back with WiiU then "they" need to make some games for hardcore gamers. I buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo made games and I am tired of gimmicks, rehashes, and kid games. They need to put a moratorium on Mario, Zelda, and Metroid to create some new IP's while putting some serious time and thought into making their classic IP's special again for the next system.

Exactly. I couldn't agree with you more. I honestly hope they go down that path.

I think the problem with the Wii U so far is: the good games are missing. I got mine at launch and only two interesting games I could find on the shelf. First was Mario Bros. U and the other one Sonic All-Stars Racing. I chose Sonic, because that Mario Bros. stuff is always the same and I love funracers. They need to release something like Mario 64 with big 3D environments or maybe some epic RPG (Zelda, Pokémon). I heard rumours about Diddy Kong Racing U and of course a new Mario Kart and Smash Bros will be coming soon. They should had at least one game of these for the launch or within the the first months of the release.
So far I'm pretty satisfied with my Wii U, but I only have one game so far.

If the no used games thing holds true the Wii U sales will pick up WAY UP.

Sorry, but I can tell you exactly what I haven't liked about my Wii. 1) the motion controller, and that I need to use it whenever I turn the system on (even if I'm playing a GC game or Brawl). 2) the online friend codes instead of a decent friend system like the PS3 and 360 have. 3) VC titles can't be used on multiple systems, or across platforms (Wii/3DS). I'm down with paying $5 for an NES title (especially one that's hard to find), but it's a pain to force me to pay for it on both my 3DS and Wii.

Some games are going to look great, and some games are going to look terrible, it's a fact of gaming that happens on every system.

My main problems with Wii have nothing to do with the graphics: the motion controls, aka the main reason for the Wii's existence, showed promise at first, but then most developers resorted to just doing token motion controls in games that were otherwise controlled traditionally. Even Nintendo was guilty of this with Super Mario Galaxy. Speaking of Nintendo, their output for the Wii has been largely disappointing: Smash Bros. was good, as was Metroid Prime 3 and both SMG games, but Super Paper Mario was tedious crap, Mario Kart Wii was pure shit and giving Metroid to Team Ninja was nothing short of abject failure.

Hell yes! I'd so go for another Super Mario 64 style Mario game. Even Super Mario Sunshine felt like it, Galaxy I didn't like hated the sphere worlds with little space, and upside down camera :/

I think the argument that other systems don't have alot of launch window games can't apply to the wii u at this point. Alot of systems, like the vita or 3ds for example, launched with a group of games and then within a month of so at least one title or even another handful end up being released. Now the new games may be shovelware or not triple A titles but they did trickle out a few weeks at a time after launch.

With the Wii U, there has been nothing since launch. Zero games. Thats a massive problem. I honestly feel bad for wii u early adopters right now. They trusted nintendo which is usually a great company and now have these consoles with no new content. At least they can play their old Wii games through HDMI but nintendo needs to do something quick to repair this situation.

As someone who owned a 3DS, DS, and Wii at launch, this doesn't make any sense. The Wii U has been out for almost 2 months. Two months in to any of the aforementioned consoles (and even the 360 really) I was wondering when something great was coming. I mean, if 100 games came out for the Wii U last month and they were all part of the Babyz/Catz/Dogz franchise, I can't say that'd be any different than nothing coming out.

Though as someone who owned a 3DS and DS at launch, let me assure you that virtually nothing was coming out for them for months after launch. DS got maybe five games in the following 3-4 months and the 3DS would be lucky if it got that.

And as I already said, the Wii U launched with more stuff than the Wii/DS/3DS/PSP/Vita/PS3 had in their first 3-5 months of existence.
