Anyways, I was considering getting a Xbox 360 Elite or Xbox 360. Mainly because of games. But, also because I need a DVD player. Problem is, is I'm not really famillar with the specs on this. Do I have to purchase a DVD remote like last time? Also, should I get the elite model? My main concern with the original is that I hear they often scratch discs.
Mainly because of games. But, also because I need a DVD player. There's no upscaling and the video is horrible you're better off just downloading movies off the market place. Do I have to purchase a DVD remote like last time? Yes and no you can use the remote but it's annoying Also, should I get the elite model? My main concern with the original is that I hear they often scratch discs. of my 2 tries sixtays neither have scratched discs they only do that if you move the unit if you need a good DVD player check these out http://www.oppodigital.com/
The 360 as a dvd player works great. the funny thing is that is all I use one of my 360s for. On the remote it is all what you need to do. I just use the controller. last thing I wanted to have was another remote to keep track of. Which one to buy....Its up to how much you want to spend. from what I have been reading regulars are now shipping with HDMI so it is more the size of the hard drive. As for scratching disc. never had an issue and my 360 from launch is still going strong. I bought more than one so I could play my games while my wife and kid played theirs. Hope that helps
The original XBOX in my opinion was a better DVD player. But look into one of those oppo players they're much better than the 360.
Well to tell you the truth. I just sort of want to validate my decision to buy an Xbox 360. My Parents are willing to pay for my essentials. Meaning basically TV and DVD player. In their opinion I have enough games, so they want the purchase to be more for a good DVD player. I do of course want a good DVD player, but I also want a 360. What exactly is wrong with the 360s DVD player? This article seems to really hate it..But I've only got one pro and one con argument right now. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2088533,00.asp But, I'm wondering if Elite has the exact same problems or if playback might be improved.
the 360 can only upscale the image when outputting to HDMI or VGA, not component. So make sure you get an elite or something.
Renting the movies off of Live in HiDef is also a convenient way to go. I watched 300 the other night... amazing in HD.
Unfortuantely no. It would be nice since I've got the Elite with the HDMI buuutt... 720p is it for the time being.
It works ok but it is very basic. You can get nice upscaling HDMI players for < $50 these days, I can't recommend it over one of those unless you are broke and already have an XB360, or have no space for another player.
I've used the Xbox 360 for playing DVDs. I also use VGA for my connection. They all looked just fine to me. And if you wanted you could download the videos off marketplace or buy the HD-DVD drive. Generally I use either the 360 or PS2 to play DVD movies. I've use the Xbox 1 but I don't have the remote and XBMC won't play DVD movies or something.
I use my 360 for my DVD player because I already have the optical cable hooked up into my receiver and I don't have a second port for another DVD player. But I might as well ask since we have the topic....does using an optical cable mean better DVD sound or is that just with games? And if I have my 360 running into a D3 port (1080i) it won't make any improvement in picture quality, even slightly? Will it be the same as my old setup which used S-Video through a standard DVD player?
Welll my plan is to get an 32" HDTV with and use the HDMI in conjuction the Elite. How will that look?
