I have been looking to get a Japanese Sega and wondering, since I love my USA one so much, why not see if they made it in Japan?

Yes but it wasn't released as a Sega machine but some sort of education machine by Linguatools or someone like that. There used to be a thread on it with pictures. There is an Asian version but that's not a real Japanese only one.

There's not a jp multimega as such. They did get the sega and jvc wondermegas, like the jvc x-eye. Shame really as the multimega is a sexy wee console. Us brits didn't get the xeye/wondermega at all:(

X'eye is the US Counterpart to the JVC Wondermega, dude.

    Theres two versions.

Sega Wondermega is the very pretty one, with the lights around the CD drive, etc...check out Yakumo's Segagaga domain for pictures of that one.

The Wondermega 2 (JVC) is essentially identical to the X'Eye though. Ugly compared to the other Wondermega, but not without it's charm.

There are two Victor Wonder Mega systems. The Victor RG-M1 (the same as the Sega Wonder Mega) and the Victor RG-M2 (the same as the JVC X'EYE).

I think there are some little differences between the Sega Wonder Mega and the Victor RG-M1, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, there are differences...I believe Yakumo pointed them out when he got his Sega one...I believe one notable thing is that the Victor one lacks the lights around the CD drive.

The differences between the Victor and Sega Wondermegas are:

    [IMG][IMG]

They are both different colours. The Sega model has green lights around the motorized CD lid the Victor one does not. The Victor model has a nice Mega CD and Mega Drive logo on the top of the unit while the Sega one has nothing. The Sega model looks that little bit sexier but the Victor Wondermega comes with a demo CD and Victor gray branded 3 button pad while the Sega Wondermega just comes with a standard black 3 button Mega Drive pad.

Actually this is not quite true.

Afaik they are both the same colour (grey and black), although I believe there is also a very rare blue variant of the Sega model.

The Victor Wondermega also has green lights around the CD lid, you just can't tell from the photo since it's turned off. If you want I can post some pics of a turned-on Victor model sometime.

So as far as I can tell the only difference is, that the Sega model has a white rim around the CD lid and the "Sega" logo, whereas the Victor has a black rim, the "Victor" logo, the "MD/MCD" sticker and comes with the Victor pad and the Wondermega games collection.

Personally I prefer the Victor model, as I think the black rim looks much better, but I'm probably biassed since that is the one I own. ;-)

I think the Sega model is rarer though, I believe not as many were built.

BTW: I'm new here, Hi everybody! :)

Yeah, I'd love to see some high quality pics of the Victor Wondermega. I own the Sega model but I've never seen the victor one in good detail. Are you sure they are both the same colour? All the pictures I've seen of the Victor model look more blue/gray looking.

That Victor picture looks a bit washed out, but I always thought they were two different colors, too. I could've sworn it didn't have lights, too. You learn something new every day here :).

Remember there's two slightly different Victor models - the RG-M1 and RG-M2, which could explain some of the confusion in here ;)

No, becasue the RG-M2 looks like the X'EYE.

    RG-M1

As you can see in the picture of the RG-M1, it is a dark Grey, like the Sega Model. The picture Yakumo posted was just washed out/poor quality. You can also see the lights on the RG-M1 in that picture.
