Is there still interest in the Xbox 360 controller? Or has everyone moved on?

Hi guys, just out of interest, I was wondering as a general consensus, is there still interest in the Xbox 360 controller for gaming? Like would you still buy a (modded) controller for the console or PC for your gaaames?

Or has everyone moved on to current-gen controllers with superior results?

Or would just buy a third-party pad?

For PC gaming I would say that the 360 controller is still the king. I think that Xbox one controller will get more and more popular with every new year. If the Xbox 360 controller has a transforming d-pad, I would say It's a near perfect controller.

Dpad and thumb grips were my only complaints on the 360 controller. I'd say the interest will always there - it won't fully die out, there's still people selling modded NES / Genesis / XB1 / etc controllers. Just less interest as the time goes on. But for the most part the Xbox One controller is superior and like proarturs said, it'll become more commonplace in the coming years.

If I cared about the Dpad in an analog controller, I'd go for a Wii U Controller but the drivers are not perfect.
Besides these days they only want you to use the sticks. The dpad is for selecting stuff. If you wanted a working Dpad just get a SNES to USB adapter.

I am glad to know that people still think this is a great controller (besides for that shitty D-Pad)! The problem with the Xbox One controller is that you cant take it to PC as straight forward as the Xbox 360's, a choice for a wired pad isnt even available.

This is very interesting, the fact selling mods of the older pads is still ongoing, is it still as popular? And how much do they go for? If only one could get the Xbox 360 controller to work on the Xbox One console, or even vice-versa! But then, people would prefer the Xbox One's D-Pad right?

I dont think it is just for selecting stuff, there's alot of platforming games and classics that heavily rely on the D-Pad, and with the Xbox 360 and PS3 a lot of compilations were released, surely this still matters and no-one has abandoned them right? :D

When you plug in an Xbox One pad, the wireless radio will turn off and it'll work as a wired pad. All you need is any micro USB cable.

True...so you would go for the Xbox One controller over the Xbox 360's?

Only because it's the Xinput standard really on PC.

    The 360 controller is mediocre.

Xbox One controller is 100x better, and doesn't need any weird tricks or haxx to work with Windows.

Really? The Xbox 360 controller technically detected itself and works pretty much 100% afterwards.

I would only assume it needs abit more configuring if one wants it to work well with emu's etc. like the force feedback for PCSX-R (which I literally done a few hours ago after a fresh start on my PC).

I still use my 360 controller for PC games. Most new games still support it, and it's a pretty good controller overall. Like people have mentioned, the d-pad is rather sucky, but other than that it's pretty good. Most of the games I play on my PC don't use the d-pad very much anyway; for games like that, I have the original hardware and controllers. I have the wireless adapter and I have 3 360 controllers, so I could theoretically use all 3 at once, though most of the time I just use one. I might consider getting an Xbox One controller eventually, but for right now the 360 controller is still perfectly useable.

I have a wired 360 controller that I really only use for PC. I think I prefer the feel of it a tiny little bit to the XB1 controller, plus I have like 3 more wireless ones I can use with my 360, but just the one One that came with my system.

I don't understand why there are so many mixed feelings about the Xbox one controller. On this forum most people like it, but If you look at Youtube's comment section, there is actually a lot of hate for this controller ( And not just fanboys hating)
I haven't used this controller, but I don't see why it would be worse than the 360 controller.

I played the One-Controller for 1-2 hours in a shop (accumulated) and I still defend the opinion that it feels worse than the 360 pad. Especially the R/L-Triggers and the two "grips" (left and right 'cheeks' of the controller) feel much more ergonomic than one the One-pad. Maybe it's just me, but I still think the ergonomics of the 360 controller are almost unmatched in console history. GameCube was great also, but the analogue sticks weren't as good.

I can't speak for others but no idea why they are hating it.

Probably a few minutes using it will not justify. When I first used the 360 controller I didn't like it much either. XBOX ONE controller is really good, insanely good. I think it's the best D-PAD yet, along with the analogs being very smooth. Triggers are a good height and don't have any wasted range like the 360 ones did.

Considering you have the choice for both, you might need to try both.

I certainly like it, it's just as ave said, the 360 is damn near perfect, ergonomics wise.

X360 controller all the way, most game I play on PC recognize it and map keys automatically. I've had it since 2006, no intention on changing it. Still feel perfect for me at least.

Well, as I said, I tried it much longer than a few minutes...
Not saying it is a bad controller, it's in fact a fantastic controller. Just compared to the 360 one, I feel that it lacks certain ergonomic and comfort. Back when I first tried the 360 pad, it felt like heaven right from the start. I do not know why they changed some of the best aspects (the comfortable weight, smooth round "cheeks", trigger sensitivity) into overall lighter levels (less heavy, less smooth, more sensitivity or at least it felt like it).

Feels a bit like going from 10/10 back to 9/10 in a ranking. Still great, but not an improvement.

    Junk drawer material.

They were so overpriced when new, now they are going to be tupperware $3 missing battery covers.

so-so for use with pc, I found the analogs to be too imprecise.

Great for stuff like puzzle games, anything with a set 4 way or 8 way orientation.

Thanks for reminding me to get rid of them before they are worthless...

So from wat I'm understanding guys, is that in theory, if the Xbox 360 controller had a better or superior D-Pad and possibly smoother thumbsticks (or simply replace the 360's one with the Xbox One controller's) you would still go onroute for the Xbox 360 controller I suppose?
