i have a SL-PG440 and a SL-PJ28, the PG440 was used by a dj even it is a home unit, still read everything like a charm, also have a SL-PD887 used on a FM station, and it reads everything too, but, there's always a black sheep, i have an SL-MC409 (110+1 cd changer) which is a pain in that part, only reads cd if they are verbatim or better, i blame the fact that is not japanese made, still relatively good, and i'm abot to get a JVC 5cd changer in a couple of days, i can't wait
I'd rather have it placed inside a steel box with a steel box made to house the steel box containing the first steel box. Between them are a set of rare earth magnets that suspend the two. Any jostling will be limited. And make shipping $800.
Actually, the CD drive seems to be dead on ASSEMblers system, not the actual machine. Either it was knocked violently causing the laser to come out of alignment or the system had been in extreme temperatures causing the laser to malfunction. If in either case extra packing would do nothing. It was sent by surface mail after all. ASSEMbler actually bought the unit from me fully working but I now feel bad since it's arrived not working. I am going to refund him or sort out another solution depending in which direction ASSEMbler would like to go. Yakumo
I'm about to call shenanigans on ASSEMbler, he has such terrible luck with shipping. We should all feel lucky and go praise our chosen gods every time we are lucky enough to get something in the mail that works.
Wow! Beautiful machine!!!! Too bad the 50 disc changer does not work for the Saturn functionality , that would be totally friggin awesome.
Yakumo, how much does this thing weight ? Main unit only, without cd-changer. I'm thinking about buying one for my collection and it seems that they're pretty cheap on yahoo. But it seems huge and I just want to estimate shipping costs...not sure if it'll be worth it if its really heavy.
Junk models are cheap on yahoo but a fully tested one in great shape will cost you more. Hmm, off the top of my head I think the main unit is about 15kg but it could be more. The CD changer is about 22kg. Yakumo
Man Sega really missed the boat with this one, people back then would have gladly payed $500 or more for a stereo+console than $400 just for a console, for the simple fact consoles were seen as toys I think thats why Sony made the PS2 look like a VCR, and just in time for DVDs
Thatst why the Hitachi Hi-Saturn was sold as a media player with packed in MPEG card in electronic stores while the Sega system was sold in game stores while the Victor / JVC model was sold in both. Yakumo
