I bought The House of the Dead Overkill for the Wii a year back on US import and was very happy with all the gore. Today I saw an add for the Japanese version (Yes, a whole year late) and what have they done? Removed most of the bloody splats when you blow away a zombie and replaced it with can what only be described as magical "puff" dust. The language is still in there from what I can tell but why remove the blood when the game still had a D rating which is about 16 or 17 years old from what I remember. Yakumo
Remember when the Japanese versions were the violent ones and the US got everything watered down. The Times they are a changin
Yes, in days gone by Japanese games were by far the best but these days they have it all wrong. The censor blood and stuff yet still give games a high rating. The government should be focusing their energy on all the underground porn rings and shit that even kids can find rather than games. But as always in this country they go for the easy target just like the F*ing police going after motorists rather than real crims. Oh, I should point out the THOTD Overkill still has all the blood over floors and so on probably because to remove them would involve making new textures. To remove the exploding zombie parts is much easier I would guess. Yakumo
The Fall of Japan has begun... What will the Weeaboos worship now that Japan has gone soft? South Korea seems to be turning into what Japan used to be.
I reckon it's a very pragmatic decision by publishers to avoid a Cero Z (18+) rating and have the game disappear in a hidden corner in the back of gamestores where they are banned to. The rationing behind Cero ratings and the subsequent regulations... now that's a different story.
I don't know really. Only the porn is hidden. In all game store whether is be an independent or chain have a special "Z" section which can be found easily. This whole CERO rating system is just stupid. Yakumo
Yeah they censored No More Heroes also. Pretty LAME IMO. They need to crack down on the...strange...strange...underground porn instead.
yeah, but its easier to crack down on games, so they go that route. :banghead: hey, they have to crack down on something
This is mostly true. The only game I can think of that was highly censored in those days is Mortal Kombat II. Compare the SNES version of the game that had the blood, violence, and fatalities of the Arcade version to the SFC version that had green blood and censored (black and white) fatalitites.
I think it has more to do with Nintendo than Japan as a whole though. The two biggest things that get censored in US games seem to always have been religious references or sexual content. Same goes for pretty much any form of media here. Not as much now days, but it still goes on. Kind of begs the question which is worse, seeing tits, or smashing a prostitutes head with a bat?
Hey, don't knock it guys... back in the UK they live in a society where ALL games and films are reviewed by a panel of 8 people (often less) and they decide what we can and can't see. No exceptions. Think about that for a second.
