Gotcha Force is fourth on the list? Huh?

Didn't Front Mission get a DS sequel fairly recently?

Sakura Taisen did get a sequel in 2008 or 2009 as well. I'm surprised no one wants another Metal Gear.

I know this is Famitsu but the numbers of people voting are very very small. 249 people is not a lot... I am sure Sega management aren't reading it and thinking "Gosh, we better make a sequel to Shenmue as 249 people want us to do so, that'll make at least 50,000 sales, lets rehire Yu Suzuki and if we sell the game for Y50,000 a pop then we might just lose a little bit of money..."

Interesting to note that Sakura Taisen was the top placed game...

Although this ignores the fact that generally sequels sell less, to note...

    Sakura Taisen - Saturn - 550,000 copies
    Sakura Taisen 3 - Dreamcast - 325,000 copies
    Sakura Taisen 5 - Playstation 2 - 150,000 copies

    Shenmue (Japan) - Dreamcast - 380,000 copies
    Shenmue 2 (Japan) - Dreamcast - 145,000 copies

I always felt that if they could of marketed it better in the U.S., it would of been a bigger hit.

Well, though I'd rather have more Shenmue than Chrono, it's only because I think that Chrono series (and most Japanese RPGs, really) are terrible...and essentially non-games...and Shenmue is a step ahead of that.

But am I the only one who has never had any fun with Shenmue? Every time I try to play it, I just find myself wandering around, talking to people, seemingly accomplishing nothing.

Japan wants more Shenmue. Japan is a relatively tiny Market. Sega wants the US market. More Sonic, YAY!

Sega won't get the US market until they listen to their fans. Which is why they suck now.

I'm glad legends is up there on the list, but I'm surprised that Mega Man X is that high. X7 was terrible and X8 was alright. I suppose a maverick hunter x 2 would be cool.

Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 were good games. And the second game ended in a bad cliffhanger. I think.

I'm also really surprised Shadow of the Colossus wasnt on the list.

SEGA DOES listen to their fans, GoH. That's why and how this came into existence:

They always did sucked both ways when it came to consumer demand.

    Quoted for false.

I would be torn if I had to pick between Shenmue 3 & another Jet Set Radio.

Japan is a relatively tiny market. This is compared to the supersized gargantuan that is the US market.

Seriously. I didn't say Japan was an unimportant market, but compared to the US, it is dwarfed. Japan's video game market looks to be about half the size of the US game market. A large company like Sega would be foolish to not attempt to cash in on it. So, if Sonic sells in the US and Shenmue doesn't. Sell sonic.

Imagine that -- it's got about half the people too! Seriously -- half is not "dwarfed" in the least. Especially considering they can probably sell more gay crap here than the US (that's a total guess based on observation).

The big Japanese companies will always go for a world wide blockbuster, and as to date, they're the only ones that have pulled it off. There are no western game franchises that sell like gangbusters in Asia (or at least Japan). Accordingly, Sega seems to have let Sakura Taisen go a bit stale as it's a one-region game, and you can bet your balls we'll not see another Valkyria Chronicles for a while since something like only 8 people in the US bought it (for shame - it rocks). The thing is though, Shenmue sold like shit in Japan and the west, so this is really a moot point.

I suppose we're not in disagreement then. Japan has about half the population and half the game market. And I've already made similar points about how you'd be stupid to not go for a game with worldwide marketability.

I was just pointing out that GodofHardcores's comment that Sega should make a Shenmue 3 because Japanese gamers want it. It's a good way to make no money in the United States, where a lot of the money is. I wasn't aware, though, that it bombed in Japan. I consider this as further evidence of my theory that Shenmue sorta sucks.

Sidenote: I don't think a Famitsu poll would be the best way to find out what will actually make money. Sort of skewed towards hardcore gamers. I'd be asking what 15 year olds wants in games....
