Yep as part of an episode of Shuukan oriraji keizai hakushou, they sent 3 people out to Akihabara to buy one copy of EVERY SINGLE FAMICOM GAME EVER MADE.

Even rare stuff like the Gold Punch-Out game that was a prize for Famicom Tour Golf, and All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros which was only given away in a raffle.

    Final total?

Out of 1051 Official games released for the Famicom The show purchased 1043 of them. Missing only 8 titles from a complete set. The cost of this experiment? 1.1 Million yen ($11,000+)

You can check the youtube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA1ufiijaoQ

They also did the same experiment with issues of Shounen Jump. All 1876 issues dating back to 1968. They only managed to buy 1873 issues however. 3 issues from a complete collection. That experiment ended up costing 1.3 million yen.

You can check the 2 parts of it here

The Shonen Jump one would've been far less exciting. They probably just went to a Mandarake and plopped down the money. :)

Yeah, I saw that the night it was on TV. Nice show but of course going the collector's way and trying to get everything complete and looking around for reasonable prices is a different story. :)

I'm surprised each time I see one of these shows as to how much money they are spending all the time on all kinds of crap. It's like: here's a million yen - let's see what we can do with that. Japanese TV really is a love/hate affair.

    Edit:
That's what they actually did. Then they got the rest off YA.

wow that is very impressive and an interesting experiment they`ll probably recoup a large percentage of the money spent reselling after they were no longer needed.

    That video looks ancient.

    1: Quality
    2: Style
3: All Night SMB for 45,000 yen? Doesn't state the completeness, but I think it's safe to say that was some time ago.

    Final cost was
    1,350,261 yen.

It does look like they're in Super Potato though.

Given that the game is one of the rarest Famicom games ever made. I belive that is acctually getting it cheap.

Still cheaper than the NWC Cart. That's for darn sure.

Oh and cez... "Hey! Spring of Trivia" has done alot weirder stuff:

--- Hiring an Ex-KGB sniper to see if he could get a strike in bowling with his gun( Video was removed)

--- Attempting to find out how powerful your whiz stream would have to be to whiz through the porcelin of a urinal (video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eSduw4mcKQ ),

--- How many free balls and yen could be got at a Pachinko parlor by finding them on the floors ( video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgXg6lVOon8 and they use Super Mario Brother's music throughout the clip)

--- Could a 215 pount frozen Tuna fish complete an olympic bobsled track (Video shot in Salt Lake City Utah with 2 olympic Bobsledders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUkfW83lkr0 )

--- How fast do you have to move to escape the smell of your own fart (video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_816ezdQ3l0 )

--- Does throwing a baseball at 100 km/h from the back of a truck going 100 km/h in the opposite direction of the ball mean the ball drops straight to the ground? (video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgKxsX5XZNc )

--- Can a Yabusame (mounted archer) hit a target while riding on the back of a truck? A motorcycle side car? A Speed boat? An escalator? A Roller Coaster?! (Part1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HICk8bjyTvs Part2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpnojd1e8yo

    It's NTV.

The reason it looks so bad is because instead of a capture card, they used a DV Camcorder and recorded it directly from the TV screen.

Lemme see. Lost, Sopranos or a number of other shows on HBO versus people eating food and talking about bullshit? Easy victory for America. However, Japanese have done one thing very well, which is the "information" show. It's not quite discovery, not an infomercial. They will go to some obscure part of the world and do an hour special. Those are good (especially if they keep the commentary down) but you will actually have to know more Japanese than insults and fighting moves. As such, not so many white people are exposed to this type of show.

The dramas are an absolutely fucking joke.

Looked like they were in Super Potato. Wonder where the fuck they got that for 45,000 yen though. Wonder if they cut them a deal?

I don't understand Japanese so I couldn't figure it out from watching but were they given a time limit to buy them all within? Why else would they be short - I mean surely those games they were missing will turn up on eBay or YJ at some point...
Was this within like 1 week, or 1 day, or what?

I don't have HBO, Cinemax, or any premium channels. I have Basic Cable. So no Soprano's, or anything good like that.

And Lost sucks IMO cause they have absolutely no idea where the hell they are going with it. I watched the first season then everything started going weird and I couldn't follow it for the life of me.

And I've watched Japanese drama's before and liked them. Albeit the one I saw in it's entirely was "Densha Otoko" I enjoyed it throughly.

and ASSEMBler, we have Food TV here. Nothing but cooking shows...and even then I only watch like 3 shows on that network because of how ecclectic they are

*Iron Chef (The original... I hate the american version...ESPECIALLY THE ONE TIME ONLY VERSION WITH WILLIAM SHATNER!)
*Good Eats (Alton Brown is a god)
*Ace of Cakes (The "American Chopper" of deserts)

I enjoy lame quiz shows as well.

Not to mention stuff like Fighting TV Samurai (which last I heard was unfortunately facing bankrupcy) and tons of anime (Seriously I would take "Powerpuff Girls Z" over "Kappa Mikey" any day of the damn week)
