See, this is the correct response. With all due respect to the young lady, Parris, if she'd been born 10 years earlier she'd no doubt have donned the Nirvana hoodie with purposely-ripped-knees and all the rest. Ten years prior to that, it would've been the new romantic thing, or hair metal. Teenagers go through these phases, and I commend you for being able to approach your own with a light-hearted attitude. Just make sure you keep the photos; the future love of her life will find it hysterical. If you choose to reveal such things, of course - I hope to God my parents don't.

Fuck! they thing they're depressed? I once talked with a survivor of a ghetto in poland: the guy had to escape through the sewers and literally walk into russia without shoes, and work there for just a meal a day (which was slightly better than nothing in weeks) and when he went back to the ghetto to find the rest of his family, he found both is his parents were killed and his sister commited suicide and killed her toddler.

Of course, living in suburbia and not having a girlfriend is waaaaaay worst that nazis killing your family......

 

While I think your example is a bit extreme, you have a good point. However, I think most of these kids are in it for the fashion/subculture. Many people will go to great lengths to fit in with a group, even if it involves making yourself look like a complete tool.
