I mean, of ALL the Youtubers, I'm not surprised he's the first (that I know of) to get sued, I mean, I've never been his biggest fan, and he gets really bashy (is that a word?) on terrible games, which like every popular Youtuber, he reviews consistently. Basically he's getting sued by Digital Homicide (makers of Steam games of..... varying quality, including the sometimes bottom 10 of 2014 game Slaughtering Grounds) for 10 counts of libel. A lot of them are relating to Jim's assertions that DH was pretending to be ECC Games (an unrelated Polish developer) and that they stole artwork from Deviantart (which was apparently bought off Shutterstock). Destructoid has links to the public documents, and I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not getting a subscription to the Arizona lawyer page: http://www.destructoid.com/indie-developer-digital-homicide-sues-jim-sterling-349283.phtml . Though the article includes an interesting nugget, in that the author contacted DH regarding the lawsuit, and was forwarded an entire email conversation with a different reporter from another outlet (maybe Kotaku?). So yeah. Oh, and they're representing themselves in the lawsuit, which always works out well 100% of the time. The important thing is I learned Jim Sterling is from Mississippi, and I'd always assumed he was British. If this succeeds, expect whoever bought the rights to LJN to sue James Rolfe for his numerous AVGN videos. Oh wait, I reviewed an LJN game, and I hated it, noooooo!
LOL, yep! That's what is important here! Edit: While I'm here, since you have well over 500 subscribers, you can get one one of those custom YouTube channel names if you haven't already! Then you can have something like youtube.com/LastCallGames rather than that UCWFa...etc!
I have, but that all just links back to the WCFwhiaosldaijg;asjf;lasf;ajf;as019740985273049;.html You can use Youtube.com/c/LastCallGames or the one you wrote. That's what's on my business card.
How odd! Mine usually swaps back to RetroJunkie2020 after a quick redirect from either youtube.com/ShaneMcRetro or youtube.com/RetroJunkie2020. Must be something to do with Google+... Why oh why did they force that on us! Also, you have business cards? Now I am jealous!
I wish this had more merit to it, as I would love to see Sterling suffer at least a little bit. I don't have a problem with shit-reviewers, but he is a class upon himself...
I think I got them off Vistaprint, good for handing out at stuff. The kinda fat guy who talks with an (apparently fake) British accent about games (and Konami sucking) with a kind of fascist vibe. Or am I the only one getting the kind of fascist vibe?
It also implies that your opinion doesn't need to be based on anything! If anybody points out facts that contradict your opinion, you can just shout, "It's my opinion! I'm entitled to it! How DARE you take my freedoms away!"
Yeah, but I get Mypoints if I buy them, so I got like 500. It's a cheap way to make your operation seem classy.
And @Yakumo has a fake British accent because he lives in Japan, so is obviously Japanese? I'm not saying it's not a fake British accent, but wouldn't you pick up on the fact his name isn't really Sterling first? Either his background is a sad one, or the story about his Mother's Hell's Angel boyfriend illustrates that he is a character. As a designer, I strongly urge anyone not to use Vistaprint. They are shite. Yeah, they do "free" business cards (you pay shipping) on crap stock with their logo plastered on the back... essentially, they've put I AM A CHEAPSKATE - DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH ME on your card. This is heightened by the pre-made designs you can choose from that look wonderfully snazzy... until you accumulate business cards from tradesmen and realize that 5 plumbers have identical cards, 3 locksmiths and a million cleaners with that cartoon lady smiling that looks oh so great.... the first time you see it. Sure, you can pay to remove the logo and pay to use better stock... but if you're going to do that, just go to a local printer or even a cheap online digital printer! Sometimes you get good deals on litho cards, even. You may give your opinion, certainly. See above - my opinion is that Vistaprint offer poor quality free cards and the very nature of their template service makes it a bog standard thing that anyone has - not the stand-out eye-catching business tool it is supposed to be. HOWEVER, you can't say something that is libellous. Apparently, he insinuated that the company stole images. That is potentially damaging to the company - sure, a bad review could be, but that's just saying this game isn't good (in his opinion). Saying that a business committed a crime without being able to prove it is very unwise.
I don't think that's what freedom of speech is in America. Isn't it something about being able to say whatever you want about the government without being silenced?
Having an opinion and presenting your poorlly researched opinion as fact are two different things, looks like he's been spreading lies and misinformation which negatively affects the image of a company. If you're going to do the whole controversial YouTuber thing and are prepared to accept the revenue which comes with it then it's your duty to make sure the things you say are correct otherwise you'll find yourself in a whole heap of shit.
To quote a random person After reading up on all of this stuff, it would appear that while there is indeed a great interest in seeing him get sued, it certainly is a joke of a case after looking into what games this company has made. This isn't being treated seriously even though it does hold some form of value (maybe not great value). I'm not sure what side I'm on here, but what i do know is that this is a very strange moment in terms of video game criticism and company integrity. It may be an Indie Dev company but it's still an important time.
Its exactly this, a lot of people in America dont seem to understand that it doesnt apply to private business etc.
I have no fucking clue who this is... But considering it's just some YouTuber, I couldn't shrug any harder at this.
