Also if you are just doing one and you are good at soldering, then I would just use an LPT cable they are super cheap and you would not have to wait on shipping.

Ehh one problem, its a hassle to find a pc that has a working lpt port(they don't all work), since most new computers don't have it.

yep and my pc it usually do 5-15 bad blocks and half of the image would not be the same if dump twice.

DIY usb flasher, never had any bad blocks, dump 400 blocks in 5 mins, idenitcal images every time.

IF you have a working LPT port, I would suggest just using LPT and only flashing XELL, then using XELL to flash the full image, very fast and VERY reliable.

If there is no port I have heard only good things about Nand-X

I never recommend this, since you can easily loose an important part of your nand if you do anything wrong, It took me like a week to rebuild an image for a console a bricked this way.

The only problems I had with LPT flashing was when it first came out the newer version of NANDPRO fixed all that. I haven't used it in a long time, but it's alot more reliable then you guys are making it seem. While it is slow, it does work. It just takes like 3 hours to get 3 dumps and right one back. But when it's all you have then it's fine as long as you do not mess up. I personally prefer the Nand-X, but do not have anything against LPT other then it being slow.

I used LPT on my first few Jtags. I have done around 175 now and i rarely get any bad blocks with the Maximus. I am not going to knock the Nand-X as it is basically the exact same thing and does that same job.

One thing i did instead of using the Pinheaders or quicksolder adapters was clipped the plugs from the wires and went to direct wire install, and put a little piece of single strand copper wire at the ends of the wires for stiffness. It lets me breeze through Jtags.

If you are only needing this for 1 system LPT is the way to do it don't spend your money unless you plan on doing more than 1 system. Or get the schematic to make a DIY USB flasher, it is much cheaper than a pre-made solution and works better than LPT. My beef with LPT was always the speed...

DIY nand flasher just solder wires or make a pin system/Cat-5 solution. + is usually cheaper.

@Bob , I think you should probly think about learning To solder etc....it will save you alot of money in the long run plus the "pre-made" devices are nearly always mass produced by the cheapest (crappest) bidder, I've even heard of some guys that have done some damage with the xecuter solderless probes, but maybe that was just scaremongering.
