When I play PS1 games on either the PS1 or the PS2, the text vibrates a lot, and the text on PS2 games is extremly blurry and there are black borders on the sides and top for both PS1 and PS2; this is ofc on an HDTV. Would picking up a cable with sync solve this? If so, what sync? Luma or C? How about a component cable? Video of the problem: e: forgot to mention that I'm using an RGB cable. When I connect my RGB modded N64 I only get minor oscillating colors but none of the zoom issues.
If you're using Composite that's the issue. Go for component cables. As for a PS1, your options are more limited and S-Video is your best choice (unless you wanna go all out and do sync on green rbgscart)
Component is the way to go for PS2. PS1 I cant honestly say you will get much better since component or VGA is not an option for it. Someone else who know's video better can help however as I'm not an expert here.
That's what I'm afraid of, the Framemeister ain't cheap :/. Can you explain why my RGB modded N64 doesn't have the scaling issues though?
I can't see a problem in your video. Almost all PS2 games are interlaced and blurry by design so don't expect the greatest picture on an HDTV. You could try running a PSX game on the PS2. Those run in low res mode and should display sharp and without shaking.
Your TV could be scaling 240p from the n64, but it might not handle 240p over other interfaces, instead showing it as 480i
If anything, I guess that your TV doesn't like the non-interlaced video signal that PlayStation games seem to generally use. When played on a PS2, PlayStation games will cause non-interlaced NTSC/PAL to be output. Your video doesn't look very clear, so I can't tell if it is just due to your TV upscaling the Standard-Definition video that the PlayStation 2 outputs, but if there is ghosting... it could be a bad connection. This console was designed in the era between SD and HD. No software was designed for HD video output, so upscaling is will have to be done for large displays.
I have the same problem with a similar tv. As said before the game mode on that tv doesn't like the video signal of the ps2. Change the scene setting on your tv remote controller to something else (general IIRC) and that problem should be gone. For the black borders use the wide button on your controller to change the settings.
I've done that and it did shake. The shaking is not shown very well in the video, but you can see the black borders, right?
Didn't help to change the aspect ratio unfortunately, this TV must be god awful at displaying low res material, it makes you wonder why they even bothered to add those inputs at all. However, changing to 'General' did get rid of most of the vibration, so thanks a lot for that. Too bad the text is still blurry as hell. There are still some scrolling going on in the colors though, could it be the cable? Ah, that makes sense. There's no way to force 240p on the PS2 and PS1? A great upscaler is so damn expensive though, so I'll pick up a small CRT instead, for now.
Uh. Didn't the OP mention that the screen shaking problem only applied to PlayStation games? Those use non-interlaced NTSC/PAL, which some modern TVs are known to not support. Some of them support these legacy video formats, only through the composite inputs.
