There's another thread about the same thing, only it's called "Opera" instead of "Jupiter" (Saturn *wink*) there. http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/playstation-clone-opera-av-station.56625/
That's what I have been looking for, but no luck. Then again all I check is ebay. Don't know where else to check.
The Opera was mine, this Jupiter is the first time I have ever seen anything like it Looks exactly the same apart from the name. Mine died and I think it got thrown away
Just tested the game and it seems to be working fine. Only thing I feel is a bit off is some of the sound affects. The footsteps don't sound right to me.
I need you to test Megaman legends 2. This is one game that has some strange programming were it will be 640x480i on the main menu, but 320x240p on any other part in the game. I'm interested to see if it can handle that main menu with no delay. I mention this especially since the PSP version has this same quirk but when running in emulation on the ps3 it upscales past 1080p (to what i presume to be double this res) then downsamples back to 1080p causing a tremendous amount of delay between input. I know some other titles have some moments where its higher quality, but this is the only one that's immediately noticeable in my experience. If you locate the debug legends 2 build, try it too (and somehow on a second controller hit circle and triangle at the same time) and you'll see what i mean by this weird scaling it has.
One was sold on eBay for $300. Brand new in box http://www.ebay.com/itm/282549465145?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1561.l2649
Very interresting bit of kit. I can't find any pictures of the PCB underside though. IE: What makes it tick?
Just wondering, do the chips and parts actually match the chips on a real playstation? Does anyone know if Sony actually license these systems?
Well, now I'm really confused on how this thing is even a PSX. We see a CXD3068 CD DSP chip, so the smaller chip north of it is probably an RF amp. On the left is something that looks like flash ROM and there's one mystery IC under the heatsink. Mysty has 200 pins, so enough to be either PSX CPU or GPU. Could it be a highly combined device? The date code on the CD DSP suggests this is from 2002. Even Sony couldn't combine CPU+GPU+all RAM in one IC then.
Now I am tempted to rip that heatsink off to see whats under it. Don't want to ruin the console though
Let console run for an hour. Turn off console, carefully twist heatsink off. Depending on the bonding compound, it will quite easily come off. If it's stubborn, let it be ;p Edit: Eh, picture almost looks like some wet glue type. Those are hard to get back together later. Also, I spot what looks like one RAM IC below the laser. Might be another big Sony chip below it as well > GPU or CPU, probably original Sony part and reworked (taken from original scrap console).
