Well I lost it today. I keep getting drop outs on my line. Maybe 12 a day. I installed a shitty old Telstra modem, and it kept dropping out. So, I grabbed my hammer and I SMASHED IT TO LITTLE FUCKING PIECES :dammit: :dammit: :dammit: Feel a lot better now though. Also picked up some capacitors... FUCKING TELSTRA BASTARDS :dammit: I installed my new modem back in. It is a Billion BiPac 7800N. After waiting on the phone for 4 hours. YES. 4 FUCKING HOURS, it turns out I apparently have water in my 40 year old copper. Telstra said they can either replace it, or just leave it UH. WTF. Anyway, I have unlit fibre optic in my street that my dad got laid about 4 years ago. It is maybe 2 KM from my house now. HOW MUCH IS FIBRE CABLE? I WANT TO GRAB A YELLOW JACKET, AND INSTALL IT MYSELF AND GET INTERNODE AS MY ISP. AND IF ANYONE USES OR TAPS INTO IT, I CAN SUE THEM RIGHT? BECAUSE IT IS MY PROPERTY???? IT SHOULD BE MY DEDICATED LINE FOR ME ONLY. SO. VERY. VERY. ANGRY!
your in aus and your expecting your internet to be good. when i was there last year i could bairly get above 0.4mbs and it dropped out like a whore all the time. my mates is so slow that it just fails to work half the time. its aus what you gonna do
I might have some pics. Have a folder full of smashed up electronics. Perfect for trolling on /g/ sometimes.
Australia+internet=a quality of service rivaling that of tap water on Mars. We Americans think our government is corrupt when it comes to ISPs and the monopolies they're busy creating but we've got nothing on Australia.
I've heard horror stories about the connection quality in Australia, it would drive me mad.. I feel bad for you, I wish I could help you out, I know what it's like to be stuck with a crap connection (Well, I use to, fixed that issue when I moved somewhere that has a decent ISP) Luckily my ISP is mainly located in Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and a few portions of Ohio, so the prices aren't through the roof. I'd say that 37 USD for a 20 mbps connection is pretty good, especially considering that I don't have a bandwidth cap.
Yes. Calm. Nice and calm... I have had 5 drops out today already... I am paying, $145 a month, for 200 GB on an ADSL+2 connection. From all that money, I would rather pay for dial-up, wait a year and then spend it on fibre.
200GB??! $145 a month! Dude, it's Telstra they over charge, rip customers off with their crappy data limits. Cancel your contract and move AWAY from them. I had a 12GB plan, yes 12GB for $50 and they refused to upgrade me to their 50GB plan that costs the same. Fucking bastards! I cancelled my contract and went with TPG. I may not have good speeds but it's unlimited! Get a new ISP. I know every service provider here uses Telstra's lines but I have less drop outs than being with Telstra. I don't understand why people think Telstra are the best ISP out there, they're far the WORST one you can choose. It's either iiNet, TPG or if you want a fat cat Optus.
you pay nearly £100 per month for 200GB ADSL+2, that really sucks mate, we have alot of problems here but we do get good internet
can't you get cable bud? im paying £47 at the moment for 100MB Broadband Phone Line + Free Weekend Calls Crappy TV Package
Hopefully the National Broadband Network will fix all of that. But by the time it gets to the masses instead of shit arse towns with low take up rates which the Government is trying to make it sound like the whole idea will fail because of this. The technology will be old and something newer no doubt will be out.
Negative. If I go about 7 miles in any direction from Burton - I could get cable and Infinity. Burton has neither I am currently on 4mb Infinity is supposed to be coming in March (but it has been pushed back 2-3 times already)
If it was that simple, I would just move (back) to Birmingham - considering I have to drive there and back everyday lol
I cant get cable. It is not in my suburb. I will change ISP's to Internode. They are really good. The NBN will take several more years. And who knows, we might even have lasers or something by the time we get it rolled out
I feel your pain, month before last they decided to steal the copper lines going to the telephone exchange, I didnt have internet/ADSL/Phone for 4 weeks, and this Wensday, they worked on the box again and crossed my line with some one els, they only fixed it on Sunday As for the pricing $145 is about what I paid 2 years ago for a 40gig cap, and then one company decided to break the mold and offer a completely uncapped connection at 2/3 less, needless to say I am now paying R1000 ($125) for 4Meg uncapped and pulling 360gigs a month from it , its still hellishly slower than 100mbit lines that are in the EU and US, but I am happy with it!!! PS From South Africa
My friend's on BT Infinity fibre, drops out continuously and the modem has a wireless range of about half a semi-detached house, which is shocking. Used to be on Virgin, which was good but the customer service was shocking, would grind down to a halt due to high contention ratios and, due to it's 'slowdown cap', stifled internet TV by the end of the month. Now on Be with ADSL2+ with 13Mb down, 1Mb Up for £22 - which isn't too bad. Of course, as you're in Oz I doubt that information will help you much...
Thats is. I have finally lost it. I am typing this from a macbook linked up to my iphone on an optus network, because today, my modem forgot its firmware (flash rom became corrupted). My guess, it was from all my reboots. So, after adding all my ports back etc, I was back online. Now. It has dropped out for good. I give up.
