To be Honest, I'd Only Pay 60+ for any type of Saturn From Japan, Or for their clones. I would only pay up to 50 bucks for a US Sega Saturn.
I bought a US saturn for about 30 dollars, which came with 2 regular controllers, a box, Sega Saturn Console with all it's cables, a 3d pad new in box, and 3 games.
    Sega Saturn Sampler
    Virtua Cop 2
    Sega Rally Championship.
In closing, all I can say is that you did get ripped, but it could depend on it's condition.
    My console looked all scratched
    My game cases were shit
And the box that came with my saturn had writing all over it. The box also had been ripped up pretty badly.
So I'd say you should have offered $50.

Hah, if he can return it, he could do so and have a friend try and buy it for cheaper. If it doesn't work, he can still buy it back for that price :D

Well considering this thread is nearly 6 months old, there's no chance I can return it. I did kinda get ripped but for my area, it's a good price. They're very scarce around here and high in demand. I did make up for it with deals on other consoles. 2 free N64s, Master System for $30, Free PSX, Free GBA, Halo Edition Xbox with 3 controllers and 15 expensive Gamecube games for $50, Free PS2 with a controller and memory card and a copy of Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Atari 2600 for $5, Turbografx 16 and Gunboat for $15.

$30 for a Master System is also bad, unless it was boxed - and even then I wouldn't pay that much personally. They should be $10-15. TG16 for $15 though - lucky sod! ;-)

Arg, I'm a sucker and didn't check the date.

Master system for 30 really isn't TOO bad. They're definitely not as common as a lot of things that go for that price.

Well the Master System if far more rare than the Saturn over here. Funcoland didn't even carry games for it. It's so rare I never even heard of it until I was in High School and I overheard a senior talking about the games he had for the Master System. I even ended up buying his Master System from Play-N-Trade.

You're lucky... there are barely any used game shops where I live, and the ones that are around don't carry any retro stuff.

Arkanoid, are you in the US?

The Master System isn't rare at all, and never was. It was a very popular system. In Europe, the US, Canada, Brazil..... so I'd say if you didn't hear about it maybe that's just you or your generation (is it "older" than you?).

My friend went in a second hand CD store a few years back in Charlotte, NC. He told me the place was huge, with CDs for like $3. They had a whole bunch of MS games. He got me one (cart only) for 50 cents.

$30 with 10 games isn't too bad (dependant on the games). Don't value the gun, it's pretty much worthless! If the system is boxed, then yes it's certainly worth it. If you want a MS, $30 with even the crappiest 10 games isn't a bad deal at all.

    Sorry for the late reply,

I live in North East Pennsylvania in the USA. The store I had mentioned is a local store ironically enough called "The Video Game Store" they sell used games that people bring in and sell to them. They usually have quite a few of many of the popular systems like playstations, sega saturns, dreamcasts, Original Nintendos, Super Nintendos and many more.

I often go in there and find great deals on all kinds of games. Due to the fact that its a used game store as far as games go it can be good sometimes and bad others depending on what people brought in, I have found stuff as rare as Boxed Atari Jaguar games and even saw some Virtual Boy stuff once. It is my favorite game store for games that are not brand new since some games you just can not find at any stores anymore.

Plus its great to know if my Saturn dies again I can just go there and get a replacement.

Yeah I'm in the US. Long Island, New York. The NES was test marketed out here in 85' and just completely phased out the Master System. It is older than be my 5 years. I was born in 91'. Anyway it's a pretty good system but the lack of available games ruins it for me. The gun is worthless (it doesn't work half the time) but it looks cool.

Perhaps I am speaking bollocks (bollocks = bullshit) but if the famiclone guns are compatible with the SMS then such a gun could work. Since famiclones (some of them) uses DB9M as joystick ports. But then again I could be speaking out of my arse, so if any one with better knowledge than me , please enlighten me, and all others who tries to think out of the box.

Woah woah. Popular in the US? Sorry I don't know if popular really is the word to use. In the US the NES dominated. I never heard a word about the SMS until well afterwards. It never took off here and I think unless you were in a big city like chicago or something you probably didn't see much of it at all. Not that I'm trying to be negative about SMS, but it really isn't that he's too young to remember SMS. Anyone in the US couldn't be blamed to think the Master System is uncommon. Europe and Brazil are certainly areas where it was popular though.

Already tried. You would have to rewire the pinouts. Well at least I would have to for the lightgun used in the "Extreme Box".

I have NEVER seen a Master System. I've been interested in games since NES days. Never seen one in a store, at a friends house, ever.
