Hi, I have just got these two consoles today and I thought that I would share some pics. I am still fairly new to software developing, I have just finished my first year at university. I have always had an interest in development units and when i saw these for sale I couldn't resist buying them. Debug unit cost me £130 DVT-4 Development unit cost me £230 I also got a PS2 DTL-H30002 Debugging unit with 80GB HDD last week for £120 I don't know a lot about the original Xbox's because I never owned one. These consoles have some content left on them that I can launch from the dash. I have only had a quick search, but i discovered that I would need to connect to these consoles through Xbox Neighborhood, so I will look into that a little bit more. Is it possible that I might find more content on the console when I setup Xbox Neighborhood? I also believe that the XDK dash is outdated but I don't want to risk losing anything from the consoles, so I wont try to update it yet. Is it easy to make a backup of the content that is on these consoles? The content on the consoles contains beta games and there is a game on the debug unit which was never finished/released, so i would definitely like to preserve that. Thanks
You'd require to install the 'Hack-devkit-GueuX-V2' to backup anything. Not really sure WHY exactly you blocked out the names of the games, it wouldn't hurt anything to share what games they are, as someone else might have them as well.
Thanks for the reply, could you point me to some information on backing these games up with the 'Hack-devkit-GueuX-V2' and maybe some information about developing on the console? I have setup a XP VM with VS 2003 and I have installed the XDK 5933, but I haven't been able to find a lot of info. An I do not want to connect the Xbox yet in case it updates and removes the files. So I want to read more info before I do anything with them. An I wasn't sure if it was OK to post that I had unreleased game data, but after searching the forum I realized its OK.
The Xbox won't update just because it's connected. You'd have to run the recoveries. What are the games on the DVT?
The DVT only has Batman Dark Dark Tomorrow beta and I know that a similar beta has already been released, not sure if it is the same version. The debug has a prototype of Burnt Out Cop and a Batman Dark Tomorrow model test file or something. I had never herd of Burnt Out Cop before, so I made another thread in the unreleased games section to try and find more info on it.
Thats why I prefer Retail Game Loader if I really need to do something retail related. HackDevKit was known for being less than perfect. Although I do run it on one kit that I capture video on, so I can see the shell in 480p -_-
This is not true. Unless the system has been locked, XBN will give you full access to the hard drive over the network. Just drag and drop the files to your PC to back them up.
I only mentioned the hacked devkit because he might not have the XDK. Whatever though, use what works for you.
You would still need FTP access or a file transfer program, which at that point you may as well just use a debug dashboard with FTP to backup stuff, which is what we had to do for Kameo
You can debug patch the xbe's and run from DVD. Avalaunch works on a debug like this. You 2 seem to be talking about the same thing.....
Well at first he was talking about Hack Devkit Bios, which is what I commented on initially, saying you would need some way of getting that on the box first, which at that point one may as well use a patched dashboard.
I mentioned that, but you then said there needs to be a way to put it on there. So the patched xbe with a FTP enabled dash will allow it as you know.
I saw it as a continuation, as in use the patched .XBE to put hackdevkit onto the kit, thus why it made no sense at all Small misunderstanding.
