Keyboard (AZERTY, HKT-7631) and Half-Life console? [trouble]

Hello, have a problem. Trying to work with a console of Half-Life with official dreamcast keyboard, works, but i can't add underscore (i mean this character _ )

The game think i have QWERTY keyboard, so characters are typing wrong, but it's almost fine anyway. I have tested all buttons and have no luck.

Maybe anybody can test it with any any official dreamcast keyboard (QWERTY?) game half life and type underscore in a console? like "sv_cheats 0" and others like this... thanks

 

On my DC keyboard (US, I think) it's the shifted version of the key just to the right of the '0' and below F9 - it has a minus sign '-' as the unshifted char. I think it's the "*" key in the AZERTY layout.

 

Firstly thank you for answer! Yes, you are right, i can type "*" or "8" with "shift" button. So any solution? Buy another keyboard - the only way?

There is underscore on the "8" button too, but how to activate it in game? only in official dreamcast web browser?

No luck, looks like no way to type underscore from french keyboard -_-

Point is the "AltGr" key is not working in half-life (maybe not working with all other dreamcast games too)
UPD: just testing this keyboard with Typing of the dead/UT/Quake III - and again - game detect it's as QWERTY keyboard! ffffuuuu, every game is totally ignored AZERTY, if you want to type "M" on ToTD you need to press this key (pic)

btw i can type Hyphen on button right from zero in Typing of the dead, but in Half-Life console this button right from zero is " [ or { " WHY so, there is no logical reason, what so special about HL game? (need someone with any keyboard to test typing underscore on another dreamcast in HL)

 

HL for DC is a NTSC|U BETA build, maybe they didn't considered Azerty layout? I mean it's not that much use outside France, if at all (et je dis ça en tant que francophone n'ayant jamais touché un azerty sauf une fois en France!). For PC, any keyboards are the same, the sole difference between qwerty and azerty (except the shape of some keys and maybe an extra one or two) is software-side. I guess it's pretty much the same for Dreamcast, though I'm not sure. So if HL is hardcoded into qwerty mode, it can't be changed. A pal version, at least a non-beta, probably would've supported azerty.

BTW I think the top (number) row is completely counter-productive on azerty, should give numbers by defaults, characters using combos. Especially true for laptops that ain't got keypads.

 

I just want to know. Maybe someone on forums have been successfully tested QWERTY/other keyboard on HL and was able to type underscore? On real practice, not in theory, that what i'm ask, thanks. Maybe noone can do that, cos its unfinished beta and bla bla bla...

Just finished deep testig with usa ver. of quake III arena with this keyboard, working perfect, detected like QWERTY, underscores and all from list i can enter easy (in blind type mode of course)

reading up on it the game has the issue with underscore, which was fixed in later revisions of the game
