Say Christmas man :p Anyway, yep I've already put my order in for some greasy chicken. We'll be having some Pizza too from Pizza-La. They actually do some very good real pizzas as well as the normal Japanese crazy shit that they call a Pizza. Down here were have 3 main chains. Pizza California (Total shit), Big Bear (not bad) and Pizza-La.

Fuck the Colonel! Even when I ate meat I hated fried Chicken. I will be working on Xmas day... just like I do every Xmas. I'll probably either have Udon or Curry. Might treat my self to some left-hand inverted after that.

    Speak of the Devil

This is what I posted on KFC's Facebook wall last week.

"About our visit tonight at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Me and my family went to eat the dinner buffet. After paying I went up
to get my sons chicken and had to wait five minutes for the cashier to
help the customers in line to get said chicken. Since there was no
chicken at all on the buffet along with biscuits. No problem got the
chicken and made his plate. Came back up with my daughter to get her
chicken and there was no employee at the counter they were behind the
chicken case. Lady came in and had to ask for a fork and napkins since
they did not supply her with any in the drive through. A female came
around the case and helped her then went right back around the case. I
was totally ignored which was unacceptable which at that point my wife
went to the counter and started yelling for a manager since there was
no one at the counter once again.

Manager came to the front and asked what the problem was, Which my
wife explained and the employee (cashier) sat there and said that he
has been at the front counter the whole time and was not in the
kitchen. I spoke up saying that he was in fact behind the case and he
seemed to be getting mad and that's when the Manager grabbed him by
the sleeve. Why should a manager have to physically have to grab a
crew member to restrain him from anymore confrontation.

The manager refunded our money and we had to go back to our kids to
tell them we are leaving. My son started crying because he was about
to take his first bite of his chicken.

We ended up leaving and went to Wendy's Instead.

We will never visit that location again. Everytime we visit that
location for anything we have to wait for food to cook. Or wait for a
    employee to help us.

    This is totally unacceptable."

Then yesterday we got a coupon in the mail for a free 8 piece family feast.

So today I went to another location (there is 2 in town) today to use the coupon.

And lets just say this is what I posted tonight on there facebook.

    "
So I went to KFC to use the coupon for my issues last week. Went to
the other location in Council Bluffs.

Got the 8 Piece Family Feast. And they did not give us any cookies.
When the manager was walking from the back with the bag of food to the
counter she looked right at the boxes of cookies. Then looked at me
with a smirk. Told me thank you and handed me the bag. I got home and
my wife said it should have came with 12 cookies.

Guess the manager didn't think we deserved them.

Then to top it off one of the Original Breasts wasnt even cooked all
the way. It was raw towards the bone.

Oh well Guess thats it We are done with KFC for good this time. Sounds
like were going back to strictly Popeyes"

At this point would rather eat nasty Mcdonalds

@Yakumo: It's the same in China. They have these so called "Italian" restaraunts which try to serve up real authentic pizzas, pastas, etc, only to basterdize them. What's worse, they think they are copying real Italian food, when really they are just copying American style Italian food. But doing a crappy job of it!

@GaijinPunch: I agree. KFC is kind of meh to me now. But I suppose if I lived in Asia or places where it wasn't as common as grabbing a burger, I'd be out eating fried chicken like the rest of the locals. Speaking of alternatives, is First Kitchen any good? I assume it's another popular alternative to KFC?

I hear you right there. At least Italian restaurants here do a pretty good job unlike most Pizza takeouts. Cabbage pizza, WTF! One thing that I love and they've totally ruined here are scones. Japanese "British" scones are so dry you could use them as chalk and they taste of salt, YUCK!

Agreed on the Pizza thing. If I order Pizza from a take out, I just get plain + my topping of choice. Only way to ensure I don't get some whacked out bullshit on my pizza.

Oh, I like on of the Pizzas a local chain servers here in Germany: topped with onions, bacon dice and roasted potatoe slices. Never thought that would work well with the base, but it does. Also pizza Pasta is great (Pizza with Spaghetti Bolognese on top), but only if it is handmade, sadly not many places offer it anymore because it takes a ton of time to prepare.

The Pizza "Currywurst-style" was not my cup of tea though...

Do you chaps get Nando's in Japan? At one stage if getting take away and getting KFC, I would eat that crap and then regret it half an hour later (felt like my stomach was swimming in a lake of spicy oil). Have never had that problem at Nando's the only thing is it costs a wack more.

Too long to quote the whole thing, but just out of curiosity: was this a KFC in Japan or somewhere else? Given what I know about KFC in Japan vs. America (and many other businesses in addition to KFC), I'd be very shocked if this inconvenience occurred in Japan. Bad service exists every where, yeah, but to my understanding, there is a much more inclusive environment between employer and employee in Japanese business practice and a much, much higher degree of care and empathy for customers.

I'm a Japanese Studies major at my university, and have often read about the fascination with KFC at Christmas! I was delighted to see this thread, haha. Do many people still say that they see a similarity between Santa and Colonel Sanders (hence KFC's popularity at this time of the year)? And, do most people also do a Christmas Cake as well? Or is that a fading tradition of sorts?

KFC in Japan is far better than the shit in the states and the UK but I can't say anything for other parts of the world. Yes, it's still junk food but it does have a hight quality level. The same goes for Mc Donalds too. And again, it is still junk food but better than it's western brothers.

As for the "Christmas Cake" well, Japanese haven't got a clue about that either as with most western foods. The Japanese idea of a Christmas cake is a sponge cake covered in white cream. Yep, not what I'd call a Christmas cake at all. It's the same shite they sell all year round but with a Christmas message on it.

Nandos is nice, and very expensive. It's not really take away food I'd say, it's not quickly made. Chicken is cooked properly not boiled like KFC.

Yea I agree with this, it can be healthier if you swap the chips for the corn or whatever. As soon as I have stopped whinging about my tonsillectomy I am going to grab me another Nando's meal!

I don't understand, is it tradition in some parts of the world to go to KFC @ Christmas?

Thanks for confirming those things for me! For anyone who is interested in how KFC in Japan differs from the US, there is a really great (albeit, outdated) mini-documentary on the subject, titled "The Colonel Comes to Japan"... unfortunately, I couldn't find the whole program, but there is a snippet of a few segments here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAV9hGEVYtw

From what I know, KFC is especially consumed in Japan during the Christmas season / on Christmas day. Colonel Sanders is likened to the image of Santa Claus! :)

As we know, Japan is mostly devoid of western religions and spiritual beliefs. So, Christmas didn't catch on for quite some time. However, in the post-WWII era, Japan continued its well-refined process of cultural borrowing, and eventually, this new idea of "Christmas" started catching on... however, it was a bit flawed at first; towards the later years of the US occupation post-WWII (when Christmas started appearing in Japan), there are numerous reports of American GIs seeing crucified Santa Clauses outside department stores! Roughly less than 1% of Japanese are Christian, but mainly, the country celebrates the spirit of the holiday, rather than its associated religious ties.

Really, eh, in that case it's about time they had a Jesus/Bible themed Anime OVA.
