Just want to let everyone here know about this Kickstarter projects for component cables for gen 1 & 2 of Genesis and SNES. I not personally involved with it, just want to pass the word around. This project is really aimed at North American NTSC owners of these consoles, since we don't really use SCART here. But they do seems to ship world wide. I personally funded at the $105 level, because I wanted all 3 cables.

This is true but for 10x the cost I would expect the framemeister to look much much better.
I think this would be a great easy and cheap alternative to get component from the SNES.

Only if your HDTV accepts the 240p signal over component.

Not to mention that these cables won't upscale, reduce input lag or add scanlines. At best, these cables would be more to compliment the Framemeister instead of using SCART cables with it. The only thing that's disappointing with their project is that it's only for 3 or the 5 major retro systems that are RGB native, the SNES, Genesis and SMS. The PS1 and Saturn are the other 2 systems that could really have used component cables since they look like shit on an HDTV, even more than their 16-bit ancestor.

My super fami is component modded and it looks awesome on my sony trinitron but usually older hdtv's will output 240p over component.

It's nice that there are other alternatives for people to use, but I would like for the Gamecube to get some component cable love too.

I wanted to back this. But 70$ for both cables? No shielding?

    No thanks.

I saw it the other day and think it's a good idea, as the cost of a decent SCART RGB to component converter is far more than $35 - makes me wish I'd come up with it, as the concept is actually pretty damn simple.

There's is absolutely no point comparing this to a Framemeister, as they serve a different market and different purposes. It's perfect for those who don't have SCART RGB inputs or maybe have an AV receiver with about 3 component inputs, but no SCART.

don't forget the shipping charges as well.
for two lousy cables the shipping charge is $25 - total of $95 for two cables.
are those cables made of lead or what? @__@

Pretty sure the guy (engineer) is lordste/thesteve and also responsible for this mod:
    http://www.tg16pcemods.com/new-and-improved-rgb-to-component-converter.html

and he sorta maybe endorsed another garbage discrete SNES YPbPr mod (while announcing this project) a year ago:
    http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8979&start=120#p115806

Naturally I'm surprised these "HD" transcoders claim the signal integrity they do, but it looks like they could be using a transcoder IC this time: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/002/830/395/248d524bfed9038d3b8d2ab426424287_large.png
Or perhaps that's a THS amp and it's just an incremental upgrade to this:

    More dirt:

Engineering snark aside, saving consoles from modding via external transcoders is a commendable cause.

Yeah that's a bit crazy. Plus it's component so it's still not as good as pure RGB, right? I suppose it's a good idea for the mass market..

Expect brilliance on component CRT SDTVs. They neither have RGB, or need upscaling.
