For those who does'nt know, last year someone found out that a Grasshopper/Capcom server with Killer 7 stuff could be acessed by the public, just like the Gears of War 3 leak, there is the download link at the download section.

In this thread, i'm going to post my findings of the game, since I have maya, I can open the models from the leak, so far I found that the Garcian model had a 3 eye version (in the final, only Emir have it), a beta long hair unfinished Emir model and Coyote early model.

Here is what I've seen so far.

It's not only the source code and files that could have been possible into the final game, but also the source files for models and animations, and a few Excel files written in japanese, they were probably some sort of deadline/dates/issues spreadsheets.

It also contains sounds and extracted textures, and stuff relating to the two GC discs, probably how to crate the proper disc recording, the discs covers and the box cover.

All the models have the cel shaded material in, including the funky lightless moving by the camera material.

Technically, yes. Though it might as well have been put there on purpose.

Update 2: Found a lot of unused models and models that you can barely see.

In those unused models, there is not only the sailor moon version of Ayame that is kinda known, but also a short hair version of it, a front modified 1911, the very first version of Dan from the Capcom Five 2002 Trailer

Also the unused sections that some people from Paradise Hotel 51 found it, but I've gone further, including the original Target00: Angel sections.

No. It might be something like unauthorized access to a computer system or copyright infringement, but it's not theft. Yes, I am being a bit pedantic here.

    Nice finding/renders!

    *edit*

Does someone had luck using the Maya export plugin? This could lead to see the unused level ingame.
edit: To avoid repeating shader lines, it is just needed to adjust the ramp value to the vertical resolution. It can be even done on multiple shaders at once.
    Cheers.

Heh, I also managed to grab this when it was posted in the shoutbox. Good job to whoever discovered it.

This is a great find. I like how the game's visual style makes even the more primitive renders look like they'd fit right into final in some weird way.

While it's great to see this material surface, I'm gutted to learn a conversion might not be possible due to the various missing files - this is perhaps the one game from that whole era I'd love for Capcom to give the HD remaster treatment, yet I suspect they'll never actually do such a thing (especially not if you consider the many parties involved needing to reach an agreement first).

Suda made a statement where he wished for a remaster, and it was two months after those files were organized.

I was wondering why they would kept a 10 year old game that is not sold anymore in a server, I'm suspicious that they were actually working on this remaster and that's why those files were on the server

Then again, iirc the company whose server it was on seems to be doing visual novels, more VNs and nothing but VNs... i.e. they wouldn't be my first choice when it comes to porting/remastering a 3D action title. But what the heck, might be a nepotism thing for all we know... o_O

I wasn't aware that Suda had made such a statement, but the timing of these files becoming available does seem to be more than just a coincidence - perhaps a remaster was on the cards, after all? If we ever do get a new version of Killer 7, I really do hope the original's load times are addressed, while one advantage is the art style (probably) meaning that it's much easier to upscale assets compared with other games from around the same period.

Been a while, but I think so, yes. Tbh I may be wrong since I didn't look too much into the company itself, but there were are loads of VN-related files on that server, including marketing slideshows, so that's where I got my impression from.

The company that leaked the files works with ARC System Works as well, so I assume they develop the visual novel games themselves, but then take on a fair amount of contract work from companies like ARC. So perhaps they were taking on contract work from Grasshopper Manufacture as well?

This is what I believe, also there is a lot of files of VN projects that were confidential, some of them were presentation powerpoints, I think they were trying to pitch to publishers, especially Marvelous that published an Otome VN for the Vita.

    A small update

I can see the original date of the maya models in the Word, it appears that by half of 2003, Killer7 was likely going through it's final phase, most of the character final models were made in june to august 2003, only their faces changed a bit during the two years, Celtic Building and Temple of Horizon (its not a bank) were almost complete.

I believe that the game was going to be released for sure in 2004, but suddenly during that year, they decided to scrap Temple of Horizon and created the Cloudman, Encounter and Dominica levels, and the Celtic Building from Angel was completely redesigned, however, even the final models were last modified by august 2004, indicating that it was likely playable from the beginning to the end at that point.

It would be kinda unrealistic to keep almost a year only in polishing phase, especially at that generation, RE4 was completely redone in a year and half, I believe that Capcom felt that a Fall 2004 release, and the aborted February 2005 date were not safe due to the fact that it was between the RE4 release.
