Update from MS Official Comment from MS: “Voice control is an exciting part of the ‘Kinect for Xbox 360’ controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010. Only on Xbox 360 will you be able to navigate the Kinect Hub using your voice to control your movies, TV Shows and music. We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time.” It will be interesting if it means it's limited only to a special section of the Dashboard "Kinect Hub" or if the error was that only English will be supported at launch. Which isn't too bad as i'm sure a bulk of the sales will be in the USA/UK anyways. ----------------------------- Credit to neogaf: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=405089 http://www.mcvuk.com/news/40584/No-voice-control-for-Kinect-launchMicrosoft has confirmed to MCV that Kinect will not boast any voice control functionality at launch. Speaking at Gamescom, marketing manager for Xbox Live EMEA Robin Burrowes stated that “we will be announcing when voice control will be turned on in due course”. Earlier demonstrations of Kinect had depicted users switching between various functions and selecting media on Xbox 360 by simply telling the console what it was they wanted it to do. The peripheral will also be able to recognise the voices of individual users. Earlier this month the platform holder touted such functionality as one of the key reasons why hardcore gamers will be keen to be amongst the first owners of the device. Kinect will launch in the UK on November 10th. UPDATE: MCV can also confirm that chat software Video Kinect will also not feature as part of the accessory's launch. Like voice control, that will also arrive at a later date. :gravedigging: http://www.roflcorner.com/roflpics/face-palm/
I'm still getting one Funny how no other news outlet is positing this news IGN or Kotaku or it didn't happen Edit- IGN is calling this report bullshit
No voice commands? That's almost as stupid as launching a smartphone that can't do cut/copy/paste.....
A person who says that the Kinect's going to be a failure, despite it not even being released yet and the fact they are very unlikely to have tried it out before dismissing it? Who cares! I'll probably still get one, although I'll wait until early next year when some more features are implemented.
See what u did there....funny.....back on topic, do u really think microsoft would release something too early without it having all its functions and/or testing it to its limits to make sure its rock solid?
I'm calling bullshit too because Kinectimals USES VOICE CONTROL FOR THE WHOLE GAME and it's a launch title. Which is exactly what the IGN article said. And we have confirmation of it's BS
Dude. Way to ****ing miss the point. ;-) The article was in terms of dashboard interface. Not use in games.
Yeah, if only it had a way to control my 360 by shouting into a cheap microphone instead of using a controller, then it'd be a winner! As far as the games go, there's that "game" where you fondle cats and some Wii Sports ripoff. If I really wanted to play that shovelware crap, I'd just buy it on my Wii...which is probably exactly what will make the Kinect fail. A lot of people already have a Wii and won't be interested in spending plenty of money on a thing that can play the same kinds of games as the Wii.
Well, OK, but I still don't get why anyone'd wanna control their console by shouting at it. Adding to my previous post, it feels like the whole motion control trend has passed by. Like it or not, Nintendo were marketing geniuses when they packaged old tech in a sleek new package, added the motion controller and said it was a console anyone could play. And it worked, the hype was incredible for the first year or so: even "lifestyle" magazines had articles on the Wii and how you could even lose weight while playing, how it was so simple even your grandmother could play, etc., etc. However, you don't see that kinda stuff about the Wii or motion controls anymore, and haven't Wii sales gone down too? I just can't see how the Kinect would be seen as anything more than an attempt to cash in on a trend that passed by in 2007...
OhMyGod! no voice command in the dashboard! that means I won't be able to impress my bros liek in that natal video! I'm so getting iced at the party this weekend! [/sarcasm](as if it wasnt obvious)
some people's first console has been a wii. they take motion controls for granted, hence they might not want to buy a console that lacks it. it's just like rumble and analog sticks back in the day.
How do you know that do you write the checks or are you one of those bitter gamers that hate everything?
IGN are complete and utter shit. They dont care about gamers. Just about money. Notice the thousands of pages they have that have names of unreleased/rare/interesting games that are blank just so they can be the top results on google and get money.
