Let me just say, epic win on this one. Thanks Dream :)

Started off by seeing that the beginning FMV has the Japanese music, rather then the USA Simple and Clean. About a quarter of the FMVs have English voices, while the rest have their original Japanese counterparts.

I was thinking that was it, but decided to configure a second controller (Im using an emulator right now since Im lazy as hell). And what do I see, but a Japanese debug menu! Epic, epic win.

Where was this released exactly? I know it was offered to drx and evilhamwizard paid for the whole thing. Kinda assumed it would be on Hidden Palace when it gets released.

That was Kingdom Hearts 2, nothing has come of that yet. This one is one I just got...

Everything is controlled via the second controller. Working on a short video, needs to be compressed and uploaded with my crappy connection so itll be a while, likely after I wake up. There are a ton of settings, and Ive only begun to understand the first few, which are the extremely simple ones.

drx is having trouble dumping his dvd, but as soon as it dumps he'll release it. We'll even see if it has debug stuff in it too.

I wish I could play this, because that was the whole reason of sending money for the thing. The KH2.IMG file on his version is somehow much bigger than the final, but that's all I know.

It's nice to see what the debug stuff looks like in this game. And I can see it's even more cooler than I remembered. Not sure if you'd be willing to release it, even for cash, because I would like to play this as well. :\

    oh well

Kingdom Hearts 2. Borman's is the chains of memories remake for the ps2.

Just to note though, drx's copy is about a month prior to the US release. I'm not sure what it says on the DVD itself other than it was sold as "Kingdom Hearts II Beta". Not sure how Square would label their stuff, I do know Previews often enable their debug screens for companies to use to fully explore the game. Not sure about Betas, but maybe they have debug menus enabled within them too. Does anyone know?

Also, I always thought that the CoM remake was based more on the original Kingdom Hearts engine rather than KH2. I'm not sure though, but that's just how it appears to me. So you might also be using KH's original debug system as well, Borman.

And one last thing - these debug menus cannot be enabled in the final version. From what I've heard, they were removed from the KH2.IMG file. So having Previews/prototypes of recent Square games is the only way to enjoy the cool parts of the game itself. :\

I meant what were you talking about DRX a KH2 build? :)

Well its strange, because there is "KH2" mentioned, which I can only assume means Kingdom Hearts 2. Ive always assumed similar things, as the camera engine was more similar to 1 then 2 I believe.

The option is highlighted, there may be a mention or two more. Hard to recall when everything is in japanese (and I havent gotten that far in taking notes).

Theres always an option for the debug menu to be in there, as I doubt many reviewers would hook up a second controller and hit buttons on single player game. The game that gave me hope was the FFX beta was released.

Edit : And on the subject of KH2, has DRX tried to just run the game and make sure the DVD is alright? The only recent game Ive had not do anything at all was an Xbox beta of Gun Valkyrie (I think, whatever game isnt working on my list hah), which refuses to be run on a debug or retail, along with not showing up in any operating system (which a DVDr should in most).

Edit 2: And on the subject of KH1 vs 2 and CoM, someone mentioned finding CoM references in KH2 if I remember correctly? So yeah.

Edit 3: And if you'd like me to try anything out with the beta, just send me a PM or a messenger to use.

Heh, guess I was wrong then. :)

I'm kinda curious though, what button actually brings up that menu? Just want to know in case the kh2 proto does get dump and I wanna check and see if it's in there for myself.

Also kinda curious on the file system on the DVD. I have the structure of the DVD he was trying to dump (with filesizes, timestamps, etc), so that was how I was able to figure out how old it was prior to the final release - since I own both copies as well. I also own CoM, so I could tell you about that game if you never owned/played the final yourself.

Now that I think about it, I am kinda curious how long this is before the final release. A more accurate timestamp is in the main executable of KH2 somewhere but I'm not sure if that holds true to CoM or not.

Reply to EDIT 1: Not sure if he has a PS2 or even if he has the time to do that. I'd check but I'm kinda doing other stuff besides hunt for protos right now.

Reply to EDIT 2: Brings up a few good points. I do actually remember people mentioning that some of the models used for CoM were in the original release of KH2. I don't remember where I heard that - but I'm pretty sure they're right since they basically hacked the game as far as they could.

Reply to EDIT 3: I can only think of one thing to try out and that's to see what the Map Select is like. In KH2 (somewhere in KH2.IMG the Japanese for this list is somewhere inside - but the actual thing is probably not there) they mention debugger maps, test maps, and even unused worlds (monsters inc, toy story, dead serious). But they existed since the very beginning of the game's development and have probably been removed to make room for the things that would be included in the game. So doing a video on this would be super awesome.

To be honest, no one would've really expected to have the debug stuff to operate with the second controller. So maybe the hackers will finally have a basis to at least try to do stuff mainly focused on debug stuff thanks to your videos. Keep them coming! :)

Circle on the second controller brings up the menu. I too have the final version, and the structure is different (will say more once I finish the old virus scan, that time of the year hah). The labelling on the disk itself just mentioned when the game was to ship, which has nothing to do with this build obviously (December 2nd 2008).

If DRX can access the main file system, then he can copy those files off, and rebuild the ISO if needed. It usually works, Ive done it in the past with success.

Edit : And Im a Kingdom Hearts fan, though not obsessive about it :p

Edit 2: The date modified says October 1st of 2008 for the main files, compared to the 21st of the retail

The file size of SLUS_217.99 is a little disheartening for me, heh. The file size for the final KH2 and drx's prototype is the same exact size but with a different hash. But the good news is the time frame on your proto and his proto is about the same (I think mine's older by a day or two).

Still though, what in the name of god is with the filesize on that? That seems a little too big for any executable, even FFX's wasn't THAT big. Probably the biggest PS2 executable I've seen.

The heck's in the RCF folder?

Heh, I guess that would be one reason to have debug enabled in the game.

Also, not sure if drx would mind (since I guess everyone knows about it already) but if he does I'll remove it. But here's the list of stuff from his prototype:

I guess I was wrong on that too, but might still be a good date - who knows. The executable in your prototype is making me iffy about the KH2 one though.

I can try live streaming some footage (my upload speed is awful though) if you'd like. Can start that once I get everything updated and ready to go.
