The market directly facing Yongsan station (the one were those annoying jerk clerks try to sell you digital cameras when you pass by) has (had?) a retro store in one of the upper stories, but it's almost entirely Japanese imports (with the exception of some PS2 and maybe Gamecube games). I keep telling myself that I have to search the cities far away from Seoul for stuff, as they're less likely to have been plundered by other foreigners yet, but I never got the chance to spend enough time looking around there.
I'm guessing you've been on the 7th floor of Yongsan terminal shopping mall? Have you tried the video game basement outside? Go the the station level, head across the foot bridge to the sister building, go down to the ground floor and out into the small car park. On the other side is a shopping arcade with a few phone and game stores. Underneath it is the largest game selling area I ever found in Seoul. Not huge but full of interesting stuff. It looks really run down and out of the way but I found a lot of retro stuff in here, Korean megadrives, Neo Geo's Saturns, they had shit loads but be prepared to dig deep. This was in 2008 however. It could have all changed by now.
That's 두꺼비 상가. Retro stuff has become fewer even there, but there's at least two booths that mostly sell old stuff, and maybe one or two others who keep a box of loose Genesis and SFC games.
If anyone has one of these I will happily offer my wife, both testicles and my healthy kidney in trade.
I saw a few of these in Korea, sell for peanuts but they're never in good condition. The Koreans take no care over their games.
Thanks for the replies and sorry for not showing up lately. Had a busy time. I went one to that gaming underground mall in Yongsan but I didn't find anything that interested me. Still, being more proficient in Korean now, I'll go there again and ask around. Korea, known to be an internet shopping paradise - doesn't take kindly to us retro gamers. It is really terrible. When I see the photos I just feel such an urge to posess all that stuff ... yark. What my heart really beats for is the Korean language original packaging, but it is so hard to get I think...
I feel like u. Still, I don't have a wife, want to keep my testicles and like alcoholic bev to much in order to get rid of kmy kidneys. Still. I WANT IT. I just ask myself if it is to some avail to contact Samsung or Hyundai to inquire about the devices. Where was the study found that was provided above?
Did you keep an eye on auction.co.kr? I don't think contacting Samsung or Hyundai will help you much. It would be much easier to just find some local kids 13-16 years old, tell them if they find one of the above items which you will actually buy they will get a 100 bucks finders reward or something like that, then you will have people working for you, that know their way around korean language second hand sites etc
Very interesting So do you know if SNK sold an Coréen version of the NeoGeo CD ? So do you know if the wooden Kof 98 SE box was to coréen or chinese ? http://www.neogeocdworld.info/html/jeux/kof98sp/kof98sp.htm
I was under the impression the boxset was a Japanese release. http://homepage2.nifty.com/gamedatabase/software/DB_SKC_NG1997-1999.html#NG1999 It was released at the end of 1998 for 6800 yen in Japan. Serial: NGCD-2420 The writing on the box that's pictured on the page you linked is also Japanese, not Chinese or Korean.
I'm still looking for Goldstar Alive II model , but here are some pictures of my "Model 1" Korean Goldstar Alive 3DO console. There isn't a lot different on this model when compared with your typical North American / European Goldstar unit. The most obvious attribute this console has that sets it apart upon first inspection is the "ALIVE" designation stamped across the top of the unit. As can be seen in the pictures below, Korean characters are both silk-screened and were also a part of the molding process as evidenced at the ports on the back of the unit. There are also respective Korean labels on both the back of the control pad and console. And, of course, input voltage/frequency and the cable plug are of the Korean variety.
Hello It's not possible the serial 2420 is the normal edition http://www.neogeocdworld.info/html/jeux/kof98/kof98.htm but it's may be for a command ? some jap reader say me it's not jap kanji on the box its not ?
The LE probably never had a separate serial and the serial on my reference page was just taken from the regular ed. inside the wooden box. Anyway, the SNK logo on the sticker with the Chinese Kanji does look strange to me, not very official. Maybe it's just been attached by some Chinese shop to seal it before the sale?
it's possibly of course but the 2 special edition on CD have a specifique N° different than the original, for me the wooden box are not an SNK edition Ah and the Wooden box have the Kof 98 calendar edition more here http://www.neogeocdworld.info/html/jeux/collector.htm
some Jap?! Why not just go all the way and add Jew, chinck, nigga, gook and so on? DON'T use the phrase Jap around here. It's just as insulting as all the above I mentioned. Use JPN if you can't be bothered to write the full word. That goes for everyone. Any more use of the word jap in a post will get it deleted. You many not think it's a big deal but Japanese do.
because Jap is a common insult. Jap is not the abbreviation for Japan at all. Just look at all sports, plain tickets, country codes and so on. They all write JPN. There are Japanese viewers on this very forum. I'm sure they'd be pleased to see the word Jap (sarcasm)
Hopefully they'd manage to see it within the context it was presented, i.e. not as an insult. Not saying we all need to start slinging the phrase around, but maybe steaming in with accusations of racism is a little reactionary?
"jap" is a very common abbreviation for the adjective "Japanese" in written French and German. In these countries nobody associates "jap" as a discrimination and I'm convinced ngcd-world didn't mean it that way either.
thanks to you Yes i am french and for me jap is just an commun abbreviation, the english are not my mother language so i don't understand all the specific insult... Yakumo the next time beging to explain and not accuse before to understand
