ok here is the gist of the problem, yesterday me and bunch of guys were at mates house we had 2 ps3's ( also present was a 360 and my megadrive one with micromachines and infaredjoypads) with two copies of rainbow six vegas 2 trying to play over the lan with cable but didnt work any ideas on how to do this or is it even possible the box does state network of 2 to 14 players ? well is a lan not a network, help please if you can had enough of the oooo 360 is so much eaiser jokes, and to be honest it is sorry ps3 i dont mean it i still love you
ah, the little exception! to put two systems in lan between themselves you need a crossover cable, else, use ordinary bridge cables and a hub.
we have a cross over cable quite certain it is a xover cable, no hub invovled why do sony have to be difficult? and once u have done this how do you get more then one player to be shown on each ps3 ?
Its entirely possible that the PS3 can sense the cable type, most modern devices do (in fact, quite a few of the semi-old hardware that I worked with did as well), but using the correct cable always is nice to be safe
so let me get this straight, Borman: There's hardware that can understand the type of cable present and switch its last pin in order to make use of a bridge cable as if it were a crossover?:O
It's posible the game does not support Local Lan play. That has little to do with sony and more bitching twards Ubi. The game is most likely needs to connect to the list server through PSN to link up a multiplayer game. I don't think many 360 games even do this anymore (yeah, quite common on first xbox).
I'm not sure if the ps3 one supports LAN i assume so since pc and 360 do. also, you cannot have more than one person per ps3 with this game. split screen is only avaible on local coop and terriorist hunt. try using regular cables and a hub.
cock and yes halo 3 works 4 on 4 with two 360s 8 people and lots of swearing at ricky cause he has stuck me for the 6th time in a row so thats a no then ?
for the 360, you can use a standard Ethernet to lan two 360s. i'd probably try and get your PS3s connected to PSN and host a private match and just play it online.
Basically every modern network device is capable of this. Unit to unit does not work on the PS3. You need a hub or a switch.
Yep, what he said. The routers and switches that I worked on were all from the late 90s, maybe a early 2000 model, and they all supported it as well (and these are actual routers, CISCO series fancy stuff, not consumer level ), but its always nice to use the right cable, elimates and potential issue
ok cheers guys great help so i tried a x-over cable it may work but saying best to play on psn and then play it there ? how many people can you have per ps3 ? and a bit of topic finally what is a good 4 player shooter on ps3 which you can lan ?
I'd also check to see if they PS3s have static ip addresses (they may be looking for a DHCP server when you need to set one). This would be assuming the PS3s could be set up in this fashion (apparently not by Taucias' comment).
I told you, you can only have one person per PS3 on LAN. The only split screen options in that game are coop and terrorist hunt and that limits to 2 people.
the best and funnest FPS on the PS3 is Halo 3, which requires you to buy the XBOX 360 expansion pack game console (doesnt require a ps3 to play unlike those old ugly add ons). Yours at below 200USD!
dude you pretty much have the most fun mutiplayer FPS on the PS3. UT3 maybe but I didn't enjoy it as much. But you're limited to 1 person a console
DHCP idea mentioned above might be the problem. Try that first. Although it was my belief that PS3s auto assign IPs if there is no DHCP server available. Best option is a switch. You can buy them in Target for around $10.
seems very true and halo 2 i love that game on elongation with swords im the daddy ne wya end of topic cna someone clsoe it please and cheers guys thanks for the help and advice
