hmm i'm not even getting e79 - its just completely dead

i've stripped it all down again and gone over board for shorts / marks - its absolutely spotless

edit: too much of a coincidence that i was booting recover at the time, gonna wire up lpt and flash my backup - will let you know the outcome

What does 'baby step' mean exactly?

some kits have a problem if you miss inbetween recoveries... you literally have to run every recovery before the latest one.

thanks for screenshot soniciso, do you think a recovery error would ever give you a dead box? or would you always get an e79, 3 rlod etc.

That's more of an old wive's tale than anything else. If a kit is going to die during a flash it's due to a hardware error, not because of the data being flashed.

Disassemble one of the leaked recoveries some time. You'll see that, unlike retail updates (which simply patch the flash), the recoveries wipe the flash and install a full version of the OS every time.

"Baby Stepping" as you put it, may make some people feel good, but it has zero tecnical impact on a system.

Not unless you plan on completely rebuilding an XBR image from the ground up.

you are an idiot sir... the recoveries DONT erase flash. they simply overwrite whats on there. if you dont know this than you are a noob.

See.. only a fellow brit can bake a kit and still see the funny side, hope you get it sorted bud.;-)

I see, ive managed to source the update, but wont bother applying it just yet, no real need as i havent noticed any bugs with 9328.0 just yet. And i like a noisy box for now haha!

If you want to get into semantics in an attempt to inflate your e-peen, I never said the word erase. If you would like to get into a technical discussion of read/write operations on the flash chip used in the system then please do so.

If the best you can do is engage in unfounded personal attacks then you will find yourself removed from the discussion in short order.

Catfight? Hardly. Just a reminder that insults don't serve any place here.

well i'm not even certain what caused it, heres what happened:

put the recovery disk in and ran default.xex from launcher (instead of rebooting like the nfo said because i'm an idiot)

screen goes black immediatly then about 15 seconds later 3rlod

    turn box off

turn it back on, disk spins up but nothing on screen

then about 30 seconds later 3rlod again.

eject the disk, same thing happens.

then i thought it was just a coincidence and the box had died (it is a 2005 xenon after all)

stripped it down, did the xclamp removal fix (i've done tonnes of these with same method all worked fine)

put it back together and now i don't even get lights or fans - completely dead
