Hi, I don't know if I missed it, but I would like to delete my account, and I can't find a function to do this. Can anyone point me where I can do this? Thanks.

We don't remove accounts. Just stop using it.

Ok, I can respect that to a certain extent. However, I want to know exactly what these "legal issues" were that were alluded to while the site was down. I don't want an account on a forum that is being watched by authorities.

It was my personal, family legal issues (assets) that had nothing to do with video games.

No reason to delete your account, it is safe.

Time and energy to write the functionality into the code, plus potential legal issues if any 3 letter agency gets mad that you didn't keep someone's personal info after they deleted the account.

At least, that's what I'd assume

EDIT: I've been corrected and told that XenForo already has the deletion functionality

Last I checked Xenoforo has that functionality built in for Admins.

Generally speaking, it has been policy after some members tried to slash and burn their contributions years ago. Shame to lose knowledge even in the event someone wants to leave.

I believe in the EU you have the right to request to see all data stored from or about you and also request its removal. It would even be illegal for the admin to refuse this. Didn't know it was the complete opposite in the US.

This is a recent law put into effect in the EU, and it's a complete joke. In the US you'd never get the courts to rule it constitutional because there is no right to be forgotten here. I love seeing European courts try to tell US companies what to do with servers outside of their jurisdiction.

    Effectively: get bent.

That isn't something to be proud of. It's especially ironic as the people who originally populated america were escaping their pasts.

Hmm, I believe it has been like this for a long time over in the EU, or at least in Germany. It is a civil right which is not a bad thing per se. But yeah, for US-based sites this is probably all different, so we'll have to deal with it.

There's no data stored about you. You aren't signing up with personal information.

The Data Protection Act (which has been in place since 1984, although replaced by the 1998 act) allows you to make a SAR to determine what personal data is held about you. We are allowed to charge a processing fee of £10. Please feel free to ask what personal information is held about you by sending an e-mail from your registered e-mail address. We will then request payment for this to be processed. Once this has been received, you will be e-mailed the data to your registered e-mail address. I can tell you for free, the data you will receive is:

    • Your e-mail address
    • Your user name
    • Your date of birth (if you entered it)
    • Your gender (if you entered it)
    • Your location (if you entered it)
    • Your occupation (if you entered it)
    • Your home page (if you entered it)
    • Your social media accounts (if you entered them)
    • Any IP addresses from which you have logged in (since June 2016)
    • Any further information located in your about or signature fields
You could find all this information via your profile and, should you wish, remove it.

You will not receive any information you have disclosed via PM, as we don't have access to it. You will not receive any information you have chosen to post on the forums, as this is a public forum and you are responsible for the content you post as it is publicly viewable.

Surely all content is owned by the person who posted it. Copyright defaults to the author. No website tries to claim ownership of user submitted content as its a minefield.

Most websites include this in their terms and conditions to stop other companies suing them based on user content.

So if the owner of said content wants it removed, it's theirs to be removed?

    Well in that case:

So why can't his account be deleted like he asked?

So what actions are taken to close an account?

As so far the only suggest was from assembler to just not use it.
