I have everything Capcom, Taito, Sega, Visco, SNK, Irem, Cave (that is emulatable anyway) and Konami, Psykyo ( I can never spell it) have to offer. Probably most of Tecmo and Hudson's stuff too. But how about arcade shmups by lesser known companies? what should I check out?
What about, Treasure(Rs-arcade and others), Technosoft(not necessarily arcade but they have thunder force and some other great stuff under their belt)? and if you don't mind, care to share a list of the ones you have? (individual games that is)
Tecnosoft has the awesome Hyper Duel that's an arcade game. Also, you should check out everything by Raizing.
it's a long 710 game list. I won't attempt Consoles
There were a few Bandai Gundam-based shmups that I always liked. Their names elude me at the moment...
and I probably have them and got confused. So far the only game I know I don't have and can't find is XII stag. Which I DO want on PS2 but can't locate for that either
I have XII Stag on PS2. It's incredibly average. But it doesn't look like you have Wolf Fang (the predecessor of Skull Fang, and a much better game) on your list. Or Varth: Operation Thunderstorm.
Rhouga is wolf fang and I did end up having Varth. While not an arcade game I found a disc image of a game called Dezeamon Plus for the PS1 It seems to be like fighter maker/rpg maker for Shmups.
I love it when people seek more ROMs of shmups yet they probably didn't even play a tenth of their games over the title screen.
710 shmup PCBs! That's damn impressive! I'd love to see pictures of your vast collection. Oh, wait....... QFT.
What good does it do to try to tell me to stop getting games that are impossible to get an other way? Who does it help? Most of these games haven't been reissued anyway and probably never will. I download the old school nobody cares DEAL WITH IT
I don't care if they are going to be reissued, they can be acquired as what they are: Arcade games on PCB's, cartridges, boards on mobo's ect. It's just fucking piracy otherwise. I could download hundreds of SNES ROMs and be like "THEY ARE NOT FOR MY PS3 AND NOT MADE ANY MOA SO HOW SHALL I GET THEM LEGALLY???". That's why you won't get any recognition from passionate collectors for acquiring illegal data. You can always get the original if you just tried.
I'm not going to create an account just to post a comment there, so here: Wow, you really have no clue what you are talking about. Yes, emulation and the process of reverse engineering an out-of-date system is legal under the DMCA; the ownership of ROM images is only legal if you own the actual hardware. The underlying reasoning behind this process is that emulation is necessary for the preservation of "historical" items when the original hardware (e.g. consoles) is no longer available or no longer functions. What it does NOT let you do is own and use ROM images to which you do not own an original piece of hardware. To recap: it is NOT legal in the US (or many other countries) to possess and use a ROM image unless you own the original hardware from which it was dumped.
I like my stick right where it is. You try to sound like mr. pro searching for all arcade shooters, yet I bet you hardly played any of them or even know what hardware they ran on. I was led to this assumption by my experiences with other MAME-fans I used to know, maybe I'm wrong in this case (but I doubt it).
I'm afraid I agree with GoH. For some of us, getting real physical copies is not only physically hard(in finding them) but Financially difficult. There have been times where I've purchased something cheaper for one system(and/or service) and gone and played a Rom of it on something else because playing on said bought system it might be uncomfortable or I might not be able to use certain things. Another example is say I have Poke'mon Gold for the gameboy but I no longer have any game boy hardware to play it on. Roms help in situations like these, and situations like this *(which actually did happen)* happen to me quite often. So Instead of being disappointed about not being able to play it, a rom playing on an emulator for the PSP made sure I never had that disappointment. And if it's illegal to own a rom, what about Owning roms that come in compliations ALA Sega Genesis Collection? Or the Zelda Collectors disk? you don't actually own physical copies of the games but Rom images on disk's. The same applies to something like PSN, XBLA or VC. Mostly the latter, you are purchasing image files of the game. It's a piece of data, yet you say it's illegal to own. That's Stereotyping. Even while it is extremely common to see mame fans "O hai, ya I has all MAME roms' Some people aren't. Although I've met people IRL who are like that. I never quite got it. Who knows Maybe I'm the only person who Gets roms one at a time under specific circumstances and plays them in said circumstances. And I usually am aware of hardware when I rarely do play MAME.
