last update: dcio works, at least dozen games i have. it uses converted track03.bin from gdi.

    speed is quite fast.
    no cdda yet.
no menu - we need make any type menu, or ask SWAT to support dcio in next ver. of his DreamShell.

next week i'll be busy at work. so i've last firmwares to OzOnE, when he load fw to dcio maybe he tell more , make vids.

any wish what game to test?

SD card works quite fast, so next time maybe i'll try usb-hdd/usb stick support.

Great work cybdyn! Hopefully the cdda support isn't too difficult to implement. I'd like to see a jet set radio test vid! Also I second skies of Arcadia as a good choice.

Congrats sir! Real good job here! I wish you luck on the CDDA implementation, IIRC those are more tedious with timing issues etc.

I'd like to see some Shenmue I/II and THPS2!

i tested Shenmue. i think it was part I.

    THPS2? ))

Atm my DC i have no gd-drive or gd-disc at all. so maybe OzoNe can compare speed)))
i can capture by osciloscope how many time it takes to read sector or etc

from hardware point cdda support is easy, but it take time to generate rigth TOC, and handle additional commands like get_subcode or etc, so it's not my priority now.
but of course it'll be interesting add support of cdda.

I remember Phantasy Star Online ver.2 being quite drive intensive. Whenever I played it on my brother's DC it was CONSTANTLY seeking and reading. So perhaps use that as a another test game to see how well it handles constant seeking/reading?

Then again. Shenmue is probably more read/seek intensive. Never played it myself.

Half-Life Gold, the commercially unreleased one for DC, that literally looks for the drive every few seconds. Be interesting to see if that makes it (more) playable. Wouldn't mind doing a DC run-through of Half-Life for old times sake . . . it's just the constant drive access noise that always got to me. :)

    Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

Just happen to be in my top5 games of all time.

    Thanks!

PS: If you can simply tell us the time it takes to load the town when leaving Ryo's house, it'll tell us pretty much how fast DCIO is; this is typically very long.

I would also like to know how Half-Life and Solder of Fortune benefit from DCIO in respect to their loading times. HLDC has gotten better on loading times over the past few years, but it still loads somewhat slower than most other games. Solder of Fortune loads VERY slow and as such is not fun to sit through the loading screens.

I signed up here to say I've been watching this thread like this:

For quite some time now. Amazing progress has been made on what was the holy grail back in my DC days, what an excellent scene it used to be and the last one I participated in fully bar a little tinkering with the original Xbox exploits.

Kudos to all and keep it up.

Aye - - much thanks for your repack, BTW, that has helped immensely. (Game is great fun overall with DC mouse and keyboard, too!)

i think no problem if game does much seeking, as no mechanical parts in DCIO.

about "Ryo leaves house" we'll make video.

still no cdi support, so only gdi images i can test/load. i dont get why it's not working. DC doesnt start run game and goes to cd-player menu, thinkin about audio CD inside drive))).

i wait first tests from OzOnE

Maybe a game like Rez? It requires files to be loaded in time for certain events or you get delays with some sounds which ruins the game, or enemy files loading incorrectly mid-level. Sometimes crashes, but usually only if a file can't be read at all.
