Hi, I was hoping some of you guys may be able to offer some insight to this. This monitor was announced last year and seems only to have been (to be) released in Europe and Japan - LG W2363V: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/monitors/0,39030120,49304403,00.htm In addition to the nice specs, it also has component input. I have been looking/researching for a new monitor for a while and I want this one. I am having trouble finding much info on this monitor save for the above review and some UK shopping sites that may or may not have any in stock. Problem is, I live in the U.S. I also came across a thread on the AVForums - seems this monitor is hard to obtain anywhere. Doing a worldwide Ebay search, I found a seller in Austria offering this unit, although there are no photos and I have not received an email back to my inquiry on shipping to the U.S. Does anyone have any ideas or has one of these or knows someone with one? I would love to add this to my setup. Any thoughts, ideas, help is much appreciated. Thanks.
First off make sure it isn't sold in the US under a different model # or brand name. Barring that I'm guessing someone on the board can probably get one for you but the extra cost and shipping probably won't make it worth it.
As far as I know this has not been released in the US under any other model or brand. Presumably it is LG's "ultimate gaming monitor" or some such. I feel I am willing to pay more than what it's worth within reason. The way I see it is that I'm gonna have it for the rest of my life and can justify the cost with its use and personal satisfaction.
Its really a limit of the technology, if something else doesn't fry first, the backlight will eventually.
Nothing about that monitor really seems that unique to me. There ought to be plenty of others with the same or very similar specs/features. Like others have said, monitors don't last too long these days; even if a monitor does last more than 3-4 years, you're probably going to want a new one by then since new technology will have been developed.
I wouldn't risk the whole process of shipping a monitor and paying all the expenses that come along with it.
Who told you that? By Japanese law they must at least last 10 years. And even then the company must suport repairs for another 10 after the product is discontinued.
My monitor here I've had since I was in year 10 or so. So whats that.. knocking on for 7 years..6770h of use it tells me.. Oh, and whats IPS?
I'm sure caps will go first in some huge numbe of devices. And somehow I don't consider that a failure/end of life.
