I have reasons to believe that you are now more machine than man..;-) Solid strategy that, works well with women too.
I just have two simple rules. 1: if you buy it, you play it 2: no buying more till you're done playing what you have (for reasonable interpretations of "done")
I need some kind of system like you guys have talked about. I've got like 70 odd games I haven't completed, and that's about 80% of my games. Don't really have time anymore to play games, but I keep buying them.
Yeah :icon_bigg I think it's wise to have an evacuation plan, especially for the ladies. Hentai figurines, Pokemon posters and Xbox shirts don't impress many people offline, myself included anymore. Time for many collectors to grow up! I think most people can still get away with games as an entertainment centerpiece without being thought of as childish, you just have to keep it *appearing* modest and in good taste. So rooms of doom = no. I'm still trying to work out the closet of doom, but I think it's doable, as long as you don't collect boxed fullsets.
This is pretty much me, though I break a couple here and there. I don't ditch new games, for instance. My main concern is that I move pretty frequently, so the collection has to be compact. Every time I have to go through the nightmare of packing it all up and shifting it out it really reminds me why I shouldn't be acquiring yet more kit.
I moved a few weeks ago, and it was a pain to box it all up, most stuff is still boxed up, making up my mind about what has to go right now.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but could you refresh me on how you possess so many copiers without braking any of those rules? Heh, surely some of those doubles, triples, etc are for memorabilia purposes
Nah I long stopped buying them so it's easy to keep to the rules By memorabilia I mean promotional non-game items, otherwise everything would qualify.
I have loads of flyers/posters from what I consider the golden age of gaming: late 80's to early 90's... mainly arcade stuff. It's what I think I will have when I grow old, or get REALLY broke. It's the only stuff that really still fascinates me. So, that's my dork thing, but it's all confined to the closet for the most part.
I sold all of my saturn stuff 1st year of college. But selling such a big chunk of your collection will definitely be a massive project.
I've found I've collected more than I play but not at the same level as some of you guys. the only things I buy on instinct are NES games, the rest well it's games I intend on actually playing. example, my sega saturn. I have 1 US game, and maybe 3 or 4 JPN games (virtual on, and some virtua fighters). I never horde either.
6 months ago my family recently increased by 2 and I've noticed my spending habits at that time on games haven't changed. I had a bit of a silly month buying stuff of ebay and Amazon market place I decided to look at the amount of pre-orders I had placed online. The total came to over £600 quid mainly special editions, COD 2, Ass Creed II, Tekken 6 controller edition and other bits. So I had a bit of a think and really didn't need shitty Night Vision goggles or some dodgy figure and also after a couple of months I probably be able to pick them up cheaper anyway (just look at the way the super markets have discounted FIFA 10). So I managed to delete ~£586 worth of orders smile.gif and thus some guilt over spending has been lifted but more importantly it has put my collecting habit into a bit of perspective. I noticed that I actually prefer to collecting older titles in more manageable sizes, things like the Mystery Dungeon series, games from the Street Fighter 2 series, Treasure titles etc. Some of these are obviously cheaper than new titles and more fun if you manage to uncover something you have been looking for a while. Case in point I manged to get a complete GB original of Mystery Dungeon off ebay for under £10. Some new stuff will obviously appeal, Super SFIV, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, etc but I think I need to get back into the habit of trading in old games and avoiding special editions just because they exist. I also tend to buy a lot of games at once and not play them all which is a bit silly really. I think a clear out could be in order too, but where to start and I always seem to have a good excuse to keep a game or a piece of hardware. Why do I keep an N64 gang writer in the attic?
i think the only special edition I've ever bought is Halo 3, and what sold me on that wasn't actually the spartan helmet, it was the bonus disc. Special Editions with bonus discs that have either extra game stuff, or director commentary, and behind the scenes footage THAT appeals to me more than night vision goggles or something.
sounds more like OCD too me.. having goals is nice and all but some people are just more resourceful by nature and to them the goals will always keep pushing further away no matter how unattainable they seem at first, to be honest i cannot see why someone like you would ever collect regular releases, what attraction did they ever have for you? some people struggle for years with making a full DC set while others just buy one over a weekend. yeah this is the biggest crock of shit cliche ever, do you even know who youre talking to? the man collects prototype games and equipment, hes not strugging to afford a used uncharted at EB games..
I don't have ocd, but I am a cheapskate. I can't pass a bargain!! I am thinning out he collection, the extra is more business items now.
