You should see the other guy :) As always, only you. Great pic by the way. Who is it? Someone you work with? Looks like he may still have some anal residue on his palm.

Nope, that's me. One of 3 self-portraits I've ever done. While I wish that was anal residue (would be a great story) it is the result of an extreme wipeout on my bicycle. No other cars or alcohol included. Wear your helmets kids!

Man, that's a great photo. Maybe I can do one as a pregnant man :p

I hear you on the bike front. I have a scar on my left shin after a slippery slide on my mountain bike 10 years back. I basically had a hole grooved in to my shin and since I never had it stitched up there's now a brown dent there. Cool conversation piece with the ladies though in summer.

Out of curiosity GaijinPunch (have I ever told you I love your name?), how many Japanese people do you scare each day? You're not just a foreigner, you've got long hair and a beard! I doubt even some kind of Super Godzilla would scare so many Japanese people! ;)

Currently posting up our day-by-day adventures as first-time visitors to Japan when we were there for two weeks over October/November. I'm being a little slack with getting them online, but you might find them useful. I found this section on Assembler really helpful, and Yakumo's adventures riding his bike or driving his car around Japan as part of Retro Core also makes for an entertaining on the ground excursions around the country :)

    Hell yeah!

Most of my western friends say I look like Jesus most of the time, and every now and again a Japanese one as well. I didn't even realize the similarities in the hand until after the fact. I just wanted to seize the moment with the wound.. Not into "pain" or any of that shit, but figured why not, so took the photo.

As for how many people I scare? Other than a few kids here and there, not many. I'm 6'3" (188cm), so every now and again if I cross paths with someone that isn't looking I can hear a gasp or other form of surprise.

Tomorrow night marks the one week anniversary of my wreck, and it still fucking hurts -- still wrapping my hand daily. :(

I'll know what to look out for now. A 6ft3 Jesus walking around south-west tokyo at night with a 5dmkii. If I'm unsure, I'll just shout "dodonpachi daifuking hell is that gayjin punch?".

Hahah... Not sure if I'd run or respond. I've actually been asked if I was who I was in arcades over the years.

I guess the selling point of the lens is the zoom? That's equivalent to 20-220 on a full frame. Quite a spread. The price seems quite high for something that doesn't maintain maximum aperture though. BUT, what do I know. ;)

Yeah, it is a shame about it not maintaining maximum aperture but as you say the zoom is probably were the price is. That and the fast auto focus for video. I needed a lens that would be fast for HD video and have a decent zoom. My current lens only has a x3 zoom which to be honest is pretty poor and it's way too slow when using auto focus on video. I looked at a few different Panasonic and Olympus lenses in the Micro Four Thirds range and this one seemed the best for my needs. The sample shots taken with a GF2 are pretty impressive for a cheaper end camera which helped in the choice.

What body do you have? On the DSLR's, they simply don't autofocus in video, as they're aimed at (at minimum) semi-pros. The video they make is fucking outstanding though. Too bad I really suck big old balls at taking video. Haha. If the lens works for you though, more power to you. Definitely times the zoom comes in handy, but more often than not I'd rather have the prime, so that's the way I'm leaning these days.

I have the Panasonic GF2 which while not as good as the Panasonic GH series or the big boys in the Canon Kiss range it's still a very capable camera especially once it's been hacked. The video my GF2 produces is amazing with good field of depth, vibrant colours, rock solid frame rate, film mode and pretty decent stereo audio. It even does 3D in HD (720p) with the correct lenses. The only bummer is that the files are so close to the camera's limit (43 mbps) that it can't actually play back the files :) so you need to view them on the computer. Here's a pretty good example below of a video shot on a hacked GF2 in 1080i. Best to watch the clip on YouTube in HD to get the true idea of quality.

I wish I had the balls that you do for taking close shots of people on the street but I don't so a zoom is something I've been looking in to getting. I also like to take scenic photos so again I'll find good use for the lens here too. Not to mention at my kids school events where I'm miles away from the action.

Yeah, the video looks good. Is that Rokkor 28mm F2.8 an old Minolta lens? I just did an experiment with a 30,000 yen 58mm Rokkor, and it looks like it's not going to work. :( Sucks, but oh, well. Will have to put it on an APS-C it looks like, which I may never own.
