    Some nice photos there.

I've had loads of work at the moment, and I've not taken many photos at all. Will hope to get back into it soon.

    Haha... indeed!
I'm going to aim to walk around for a few hours sometime next week. This week I'm too busy getting it shoved up my ass by real life. You know how it goes.

Sure do. No free time at all recently. I haven't even made a new retro Core show in months due to being way too busy.

oh my, here I was looking for pictures, and ended up laughing my ass off :)

btw, Yakumo, you seem to be taking some very good nocturnal pictures with your camera phone! What model is it?

GaijinPunch, I'm guessing those last pics were from a camera?

Great thread, I've always felt like Japan was a place I would love to visit, somewhere where unnecessary thoughts don't occur, people just live life as it is... I may be wrong, but still... :friendly_wink:

I use an Android powered Sharp Aquos phone model SH104. The phone has no flash due to the "revolutionary" camera that works in low light conditions. To be fair, Sharps claims are actually true. The camera does work great in low light and takes amazing 1080p video. however while the stock video camera app is fantastic the stock camera app it pretty poor so I use Camera360. Great app from Korea I believe and really brings out the best in the phone's camera hardware.
Well, I finally managed to process the pictures I took in Aso back in May. Loads to look at. Enjoy!

Aso is pretty awesome, I went there a couple of weeks ago. Alas, the volcano was spewing out a lot of sulpherous steam, so we couldn't actually go inside the crater for a closer look at the lake. Also had some amazing views at Daikanbo.

Yep -- my new camera which I've not really gotten to fully utilize yet. More to come as my life gets back in order.

Hey, I think that's the fist time we've seen your kid on here. He's about 6, right? Looks a little older in the pictures. Not a bad looking kid, at all :encouragement:
Can he ride his bike well? I've been trying to get mine on the bike but he's bloody awful. takes after his mum in the balance department. Looks like I'll still be skiing solo then.

He just learned to ride w/ no training wheels about 6 weeks ago. There's a hill on the bike trail in Yoyogi Park. On the way down, he drags his toes to slow down, and walks on the uphill part even though most girls ride up it. (Facepalm). Took a long time... I'm right by the park, so he's been on bicycles for ages. But, once they get it, they got it. He wouldn't bother w/ the Strider. I think he rode it twice and was like, "no thanks".

Swimming is up next... he has the motions down, but sinks. Anywho, he's off to brighter shores in America w/ his mom to get an education that he just isn't going to find here. Luckily my job allows me to visit a lot.

Yep, Japanese public schools are shit. My kid goes to a public one but we teach him at home too because I know how awful the schools really are. I worked as an ALT for 8 years. Now I've moved on but the time as an ALT really showed how shit many schools here really are.

We send our boy to swimming school. He's been going every Saturday for 2 years now. Again, just like everything here they rape the shit out of you money wise by dragging shit on for way too long. My wife doesn't seem to thing so though. What does she know though, she's never lived outside of Japan long enough to notice.

Good to know that you'll be able to see your son a lot in the states. Still a real bummer not having him around all the time though but then again at least you'll have a bit of freedom, at a price that is.

We've been living separately for over a year now. My son's Aspbergers is one to think of, but his ADHD is fucking bananas. He can't go to normal public school, and the special needs here are a fucking joke -- I mean, a bigger fucking joke than you would imagine. They were going to lump him into a class that covered about 3 age grades, and conditions from hyper activity to down syndrome. My future ex wife took one look and said, "no fucking way". Sorted out her green card, and hit the road. Definitely for the best.... I just gotta get over there and spend some time. I go regularly for work... just now my weekends will be spoken for.

Sad to hear about your married life but I can honestly say I fully understand. The amount of times I've thought about divorce is amazing. I stay though just for my son. Some people say I'm stupid but I feel it's right.

That's a bummer about your son. I've dealt with many ADHD kids. Some turn out great once they reach 5th or 6th grade but they are the ones not put in the class you described. The Himawari or Aosora or some other stupid named class filled with many grades and serious handicapped students. ADHD is not the same as down syndrome so why put those kids in the same class?

Yeah -- the US is quite good for that stuff. She found a program which is apparently off the charts, and is in the public system if you can believe that! The upside is I don't have to see her, which means my stress levels are lower. I have to pursue legal action and shit in the US at least once residency kicks in, but not sure how all that's going to play out. Fun times ahead!

Not sure this can be of any help, but I have read recently a study that showed that the diagnose of ADHD in children has grown exponentially in the past 10 years (in the US alone) and so have the amounts of drugs prescription to these kids. Some say doctors are "being pushed" to diagnose kids with this condition, to prevent them from not accepting the "education system" as they are intended.

Worst thing is when these kids grow distant from their relatives due to what these drugs do to a person. Many parents terminated the use of prescription drugs, only to see their kids "come back" to what they were.

Brightest of futures to your kid Gaijin!

    Cheers.
My son is not medicated though... I'm not totally against it, but I'd need to do more research. Going to see what these programs in the US have to offer him. I'll be happy if he gets his English under control. He's definitely hyper active, and would be destructive to other children if not properly handled. This isn't a big mystery. :) The Aspbergers part is a little more iffy . We thought he might be autistic. He didnt' start talking until 3.75 years old. Memory is off the fucking charts though. Has memorized a handful of train lines (the stations, the order, and their kanji).
