I don't hate 'em, they never did anything to me, in contrary to all that mosquitos and shit, but I also wouldn't like to touch 'em either :)

On the contrary, I love spiders!

Seeing as I am going to Japan on my own, is it worth getting someone to translate an "in case of emergency" card to Japanese for me in case I get bitten? (serious question)

It wouldn't hurt but I doubt you will get bitten. As I said, 11 years living here and I've only seen 1. I've seen many snakes mind you.

I was looking at the wide angle options for my camera.

I can get a .45x or a .50x can someone tell me which is more?
There's a .18 but that is fisheye, so bigger is better?

The smaller the number the better. My wide angle is 17-55 (and isn't fishbowl). What's your camera?

Canon G10, it's half way between dslr and point and shoot.

I can use 58mm lenses on a tube, the problem I have using filters is the cropping and I need a pretty good wide angle to compensate.

You can get software to de-fisheye pictures, that's what a lot of people use for extreme wide angle shots without having the distortion.

I decided I don't have the time to be an awesome photgrapher. I have a nice camera and lens, so I'm good for a while. 95% of my pictures are of my kid doing something stupid anyway. :)

The family took a trip to Mt.Hinoyama yesterday which is the highest point in Shimonoseki. While there I took a panoramic view of the west side of the city facing the Japan sea.

Nice pic. I'm always fascinated by panoramic shots.
Did you do this with an iPhone or with a proper camera setup?

Took it with the iPhone which is why the detail isn't too good. If only the phone had a better camera. The software works really well. It also geotags the pictures for you.

Well the iPhone 4 does have a better camera if you were really interested.

I found this awesome set of photos via boingboing
    http://www.wordpress.tokyotimes.org/?p=5858

An enka singer's abandoned house still full with gear, and personal effects covered in dust.

It's amazing how many abandoned places you can find in Japan with all the equipment still in there.

Pics of an Uyoku rally. I usually never miss this. They hand out propaganda pamphlets which I have collected.
A close friend of mine has a cousin who is part of an Uyoku faction in Miyagi prefecture. He said he doesn't go
because of all the pissing contests between factions.

If you look like a foreigner, I highly recommend you don't try getting too close to these guys.
But then again, it depends on the faction. A great glimpse into the real Japan! Heh.

I talked to some of these guys, they are pretty weird or cool depending on who you talk to.
Some are highly educated, some are complete idiots.

    Anyway, enjoy!

This is an anti-Uyoku group ready to confront them.

    End America's tyranny!

Police block more of them from getting near the Yasukuni Shrine

The Shrine is never this crowded. Only when the Uyoku roll around.

The bald guy is actually a well-known Uyoku leader. I've seen him on TV
a few times. He's like some well-educated scholar who went to one of Japan's
top schools. He's wasting his smarts on ignorance, I'd say!

Here's a pic of him I stole from his site:

The Uyoku are financed mostly by the Yakuza, and that's them watching from the sidelines.

Police blocking the entrance of the shrine.

Police directing them to go away. That blockade on the right was only
    opened for non uyoku cars.

OK, now that is just funny.

Interesting. Can't find out much about them online, at least not in English.

The Uyoku like all of these groups are a bunch of pricks. Power hungry pricks. That's all you need to know. I hate these people beyond belief.
