Life's tough when you're 10.....

The sad thing is, it's generally just peer group pressure that makes kids want games with inappropriate ratings. There's no shortage of great E and E 10+ games available, but for some reason people have adopted the attitude that the ratings system is there for no good reason whatsoever.

IMHO 10 year olds shouldn't be playing games with graphic representation of human death, foul language or strong sexual content. Call me old fashioned, but I believe in protecting kids from such subjects until they are emotionally equipped to understand and process them correctly.

You realize Robocop, Terminator, Predator are all 18+? Die Hard is 18+. Lol...most action films are 18+.

 

I think Hexigon was referring to the Australian R18+, which can encompass the softer end of softcore porn (X18 covers the less-soft end, as it were).

You can be fined for knowingly selling an R18 game to an adult who is buying it for a minor (almost never happens, though.)

 

I've still never played it, only the SNES version (with censorship).

Also, I don't own any 14+ game or above.

If parents want to buy there kids 18+ games then so be it. Kids are exposed to so much worse in the real world. Using me as an example; looked at porn at age 12; had sex at age 16; tried drugs at age 17. Video games didn't cause me to do these things; peer pressure did. (btw I'm 31 and happily married)

 

Biggest problem with network outages on Microsoft's part, you can't activate any brand new Xbox One console's, rendering them useless for the time being. (Does Sony have the same thing?)

This happens all the time, then they complain that their kids got access to bad games, as if the guy at Gamestop is supposed to do parent your kid for you.

 

The major difference is that Mortal Kombat in 1993 didn't involve a huge layer of anonymity where you could do and say whatever the fuck you wanted or vocally harass other people playing without any social, moral or physical repercussions. Whereby with a young impressionable learning mind...You should get the picture by now.


Especially with how today is and how utterly volatile XboxLIVE is. I knew people who's parents wouldn't let them touch R-M games growing up, I can't imagine how those parents would've felt with shit like the internet and anonymity added in for shits and giggles.

 

It seems like only 2 games i have openly admit that they are 18+ excluding the ESRB rating: RE4 and Conker. Nowadays nobody really reads the damn ESRB rating on the box... At least Google and Apple warn people that its 17/18+ when some one gets an app on the Google Play Store/ App store that has such a rating.

Heh, you're right, it never happens. The amount of GTA V copies sold were probably to minors. Kids just shouldn't be playing them, not only they shouldn't but it ruins online. I had so many kids calling me a "motherfucking cunt", it just gets old real quick.

 

I've always realized this since little kids started playing such mature games in 2008/9. It's like it was a luxury to play online when XBL was released in 2002. Now it seems to be filled with the little rascals driving normal people who play these games mad. Its like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard. I also feel bad when they diss games like Mario and Zelda. Its like a knife stabbing at my childhood memories.

 

I have no idea what you're talking about, as asshats (both kids & adults) have been on Xbox LIVE since it started. In fact, I would argue that it was even worse back then, because everybody seemed to have a mic in & everyone was talking, probably because it was such a "new" thing to be able to talk to people console-to-console.

Trash talk is part of multi-player gaming, always has been. With the anonymity factored in, the trash talk exceeds the usual & traverses into the extreme. Luckily, you can mute anybody you'd like, unlike your real life friend who just wiped the floor with you in Street Fighter.

Also, I diss on the newer Mario & Zelda games nowadays, too. They mostly suck. If you mean they diss on classic awesome titles while heralding Call of Duty as the supreme, then just laugh it off, as do I when people claim the Transformers movies are some of the best theatrical masterpieces of our time.

 

Ok i see. Then again i still feel bad for those who bash old games like final fantasy castlevania and other memorable games.

As for minors getting access to R18. Most parents don't care. What would I do instead is play with him and then talk about the game. If his perspective is wrong about the game, I will try to correct it if possible.

 

Same here, i got brought up on all sorts of violent films and must of played the first GTA when i was about 10. And i am pretty much the definition of a pacifist lol

If my net drops for even a moment Destiny on the PS4 would return to title screen (mid match even) and I couldn't do anything until it was fixed. This is one of the reasons I stopped playing and never made it past level 11. I live in apt complex and with so many wireless signals packet loss and small disconnects aren't all that uncommon. I eventually ran ethernet wire around to comp/consoles etc but by that point I lost all desire to play the game.
