sony is just mad because they couldn't over price their systems even more. They don't want to see anything they make marked up more than they could.
The lawsuit was about the sale of japanese PSP in Europe, the AC adapter supplied with every PSP is 100-240v compliant, and have been agreed by the european security certification committee... Sad day for all the imports player all over the world...
Hah. They have a special division for such complains. The heck, didn't they know Lik-Sang isn't Sony-Products Exclusive???
Sony has now made a colorful statement about the Lik-sang litigation and claims it is not responsible for its closure: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=20564 Can't wait to see how this develops.
Well i agree with Sony in one thing; privacy-wise its very lame to mention names of people who ordered fgrom your website. That doesnt change the fact that Sony are a bunch or arses though. Fire-hazard? what a joke. Time to weld that 110/220 switch on your PC's PSU shut in 220 i suppose, wouldnt want to endanger the customer... As far as taxes are concerned; up till now i've always had to pay a huge import fee for imported goods. I even pay it over second-hand stuff. Dont even get me started on that.
What's next? PlayAsia? And then? Region restrictions on eBay? And what if I was a Japanese who came to study English in Europe or the US? No games for me? edit: This is real bull. PSP is region free and the power supply is 110/220V hybrid, and as for PS2/PS3, people are intelligent enough to get power transformers and have knowledge of region locks.
Nintendo almost closed them down a few years ago for selling flash carts. It was only a matter of time. I'm sure they were given fair warning too.
No the smartest move indeed, but these guys have to close their business as a result of lawsuit brought by Sony, so I understand they don't want to go down on their own... Nice statement from Sony on GI.biz, doing a bit of damage control, "it's not us, it's them, gna gna gna gna..." Politic pfffuuu... this industry is getting boring... time for a change... Sabre
Yeah, you guys are tending to forget that London High Courts can't do shit to a company in a CHINESE country. American, they might be able to pull some strings, but this is China we're talking about...regardless of who used to own HK. The best they could do is get shipments from Lik Sang sent back, but that would be more hassle than it's worth to anyone. Unless Pacific Game Technology either has interests in the UK, or is a UK-traded company. Back to the point. Lik Sang should've fucking known better. If you're in a gray area, and people turn the other way, when they actually DO turn to you and tell you to cut it out, cut it out.
Goddammit. I'm a lik-dang affiliate. Now I have to take down all the ads on my website (not that they were bringing in tons of dough or anything, but I have made some cash from them.) Thanks a lot Sony, you greedy bastards.
I never imported anything from Lik Sang but its really sucky that they got taken down. I'm fairly certain they'll be back, though. I'd say from what others have said about it before, that it will come back because the guys that own it don't screw people around and don't have to carry a gun around for protection because of crap service like another owner of another certain online Video game store. FYI, the other game store was Buyritegames. More like Buywrong. I've heard horror stories all around on the net and other places.
I m sorry to point out that you are wrong. The UK can't "directly do shit" about the subject, but there's a consistency in international decisions and one court respect's the other's judgements, else political crisis arise as well as bad faith. The chinese government would care more to keep a "good faith" channel with the UK in order to promote its ever growing commerce than give a crap for companies such as Lik Sang. The beautiful beast that is international law and treaties Personally, I understand where Sony is comming from (legally), but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy imports as much as any of us. There's no denying that PAL software is always delayed and usualy lacking (Technically to say the least). The whole business-class side of imports is dead Jack. The only way to do things is on an almost 1:1 basis, via private dealings. Forget about organized online catalogues etc. It's back to the black market and knowing the right friends in the right countries - Which I don't mind, since I have had the honour to be in contact with quite a few people from the boards
Oh, come on.... I had stuff about to be ordered from there... Well, there goes my only way to import games decently... I'd love to find another online vendor that ships JP stuff to Mexico, and won't rip you off or overprice that much. So...From this point on, EVERY GAME I BUY for a Sony system, that is not more than 5 years old will more than likely be PIRATED. Those fuckers.....Fuck you Sony. Die in a Fire.
Okay, so that means I'm right... Uh... you realize we're talking about China, right? I can understand if it's something like Yahoo. The Frenchies got all uptight about selling Nazi memorabilia. Yahoo complied, b/c they have yahoo.fr to worry about. Same w/ all this online poker buillshit. The US has issued warrants for the arrest of higher ups of online gambling sights. They can't do anything unless those people enter the US though. Are they shutting down? No... just turning away Americans in some cases.
This is no doubt from Hollywood pressure. They would be morons to put in a region free DVD player. They DVD consortium or whatever it's called was really fucked off at them for the bug in the PS2 which allows region free playback.
If you read the last US case about the Nazi memorabilia , you would see that the american courts did hold the French rulling valid , despite first ammendment issues during the first round. I would be happy to point out citation if needed PS: my dissertation is on internet law
