Does anyone know how to change the game region (US / JP) on a gamecube Q imported "Lik sang" (before they went bust) tried holding the power switch on switch on but that doesn't seem to be doing it. cheers
Nah that isn't working either, holding it while powered up and before switch on still doesn't do anything. thinking this GQ isn't modded now, it came from LIk sang and had US games in the box too so I assumed it was... phfff
Lik-sang Panasonic Qs boot into Japanese mode if you press the power button and US mode if you hold down for a couple of seconds on boot. If it doesn't, it's quite possible it hasn't been modded.
It's quite possibly not modded - after Lik Sang got sued the first time, they made a policy decision that they would no longer ship modchips, and any other hardware they supplied would be in it's original condition - so if you got it after that, it will be unmodified. Having said that, it's a very simple mod - basically just a single piece of wire. The most complex and difficult part of it is taking the Q apart...
Humm I'm pretty much convinced it's not modded now, although the US discs in the box remain a mystery unless he was using a freeloader which I haven't had a chance to ask him about yet. If you could elaborate on the piece of wire that might come in handy in the future. thanks
If you pull the Q apart, in the bottom of the case there is a board that looks very much like a regular gamecube mobo - about the only thing changed is that it has different video connectors on it - and it still has the place for R6 where you wire the region switch - so just solder one end of the wire to the end of R6 that's not connected to ground, and solder the other to the pin on the reset switch that's not connected to ground.
