Not entirely correct! I had a German (Pal) release unit that had the 3944 Kernel on it. That means there seldom outside the us but they exist.
Your kernels have now been added to the Archive http://xboxarchive.co.uk/doku.php?id=operating_system:start
N64 freak claims he has an xbox with a 5960 kernel (v1.6 latest batch).. but apparently, the EvoX system tools > backup will only backup his eeprom and not the bios.bin.. I don't know if this is normal behaviour for 1.6 models, but it looks like he will require a custom tool for dumping that kernel.
not sure if this is any use to you i looked though my debug kits and spare drives Kernel 1.00.5455.01 Dash 1.00.5659.03 1.00.5659.01 1.00.4920.01 XDK 1.00.5849.1 1.00.5558.1 1.00.5445.1 1.00.5933.1
Just checked the V1.6 that promised the 5960 Dash and Kernel. It's a bit of a disappointment this time. The Box had a modchip added that has a Modified Bios flashed to it. Just removed it and whoops it boots the retail Bios which is also just a 5838. Maybe i should have opened that one earlier!
Is this a debug unit? Could you supply this kernel plz (or a crc32/md5 hash, if posting such files here isn't allowed)? You can save it in evox by going to System Utils > Backup and it will output a bios.bin file.. Does anyone know if 5455 and 5558 are the only debug kernels? At least the mystery is cleared up! If we have more people checking, perhaps we'll end up with a 4627 or 4972 one (maybe they are debug kernels also).
There is a debug 5558 out there? I've never seen that... >.< The three debug kernels I've always known are 3944, 4034, and 5455. 3944 and 4034 have retail equivalents; I don't know whether 5455 has a retail equivalent. 5455 is the version used by the Chihiro kernel, though.
would it be possible MS used a subversion like system (i dont know how they DEV back then) and a version in their Kernel would maybe not be from the same branch? For example the Chihiro(! just an example of possibility, not proven at all!): be using a Retail/Dev kernel source, build some extra's and the next retail Kernel with a higher version number not using Chihiro code? A full list is nice, but maybe getting an understanding of the Version Tree (if posible) is also kinda neat to know.
I have a mountain dew XBOX with kernal 5101 and dash 4920. I am gonna be selling it if you need a back up let me know ASAP!
Thanks for the offer! But you don't need to back them up, we already have Kernel 5101 and Dash 4920 backed up.
D:1.00.5960.01 is the latest dashboard Microsoft released that runs across all Xbox versions. Google search, "Clean C and E files for Xbox" for download link.
