    Hi everyone,

I'm looking to build a custom made dedicated HD capture PC, to take HD screenshots and video of my Xbox 360 and PS3 on. I've seen special ones built for around £6,000, but I was hoping that I could build one of a similar spec (capable of recording at 720p or 1080i at 60/50fps) for a lot less (up to £1,000 max).

What kind of parts would I need to ensure a completely lag-free experience, and do you reckon a sub £1k budget is realistic for my goals? If not, what would a £1k budget get me?

It's needs to be portable (as I may need to take it to publishers for capturing purposes), so as long as I can hook it up to an HD TV or DVI-out monitor, that'd be perfect.

I've seen this HD capture card around: http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/publi...agic_intensity but is this actually the best one possible for capturing footage of a console in HD?

All help and advice on this would be genuinely appreciated.

You will need at least a dual core CPU, 4gigs RAM, 500gig HDD space, and a TV Tuner capable of encoding HD signals. I highly recommend Intel. ATI also makes TV Tuners and are very user friendly for first-timers.

Dont get ahead of yourself madhatter. I capture on my quad xeon mac (over what you said), but just 1 gig of ram, though Im sure more would be nice. ATI wont do HD for cheap. I use the Blackmagic Intensity Pro for my site, which allows for component and composite through the included adapter (svideo sold seperately), and non HDCP HDMI. I prefer Final Cut to most of the Windows programs at this point, so Id still recommend a Mac.

It will NOT be portable. Using the BMIntensity Pro, youll need at least 1 free PCI-e slot, plus whatever your standard graphics card will be. You do not really want just the plain Intensity model, PS3 HDMI isnt compatible, and Ive yet to test a 360s. Component for PS3 and 360 is fine, and is what Ive been using, though buy official cables, as my third party PS2/3 one sucks heh. Also note, the Intensity series does NOT capture 480p.

Send me a PM if you want to know more, and check out the stuff on my site.
