The title to this thread says it all really. I was a user of WinMX but since October the servers have been off line so I'm in the need of a new P2P network. I mostly need it for older English and older & newer Japanese music. I'm not arsed about movies, games, software or anything like that since that's what BT is for :p can anyone point me in the right direction?

Try frostwire or emule. There are linux versions of each if you need them, which I doubt you do

I don't like p2p, you had better be using a proxy.

edonkey eats your banwith up pretty badly(unless you force it not to share) me i reccomend bittorents all the way, theyve never failed me and are at times extremely fast. ALot more reliable as well, if you want i can give you some sites, just let me know.

Honestly, I use Limewire if I absolutely want to find a song. I usually use it to find songs I want to import into my RPG. Other than that, I find songs at Newgrounds.

eMule can be the king of P2P while also being the king of Trojans!

Thanks for the info guys. I know torrents are great for movies and stuff but I can't see them being much use when it comes to getting songs (singles) that are over 10 years old. Still I'll have a look at some of the ideas posted.

Light version of Limewire. Works on OS X, OS 9 and the bastard OS I use even though I hate it with a burning vengance.

WinMX isn't dead yet! I thought it would never work again, then I tried this: http://www.winmxgroup.com

Also, I use Shareaza all the time and it works great - it uses the Gnutella 1/2 networks and the eDonkey2000 network (what eMule uses; it also has BT support but it's crap), and it's not written in Java so it's not slow as hell like stinky LimeWire!

Wow, thanks Zilog Jones ! Got WinMX back up and running. The reason why I like win MX is because it has far more Japnesestuff on it than anything else since this is what the Japanese use. Strange the way they all follow eachother like sheep :p

Yeah, that's why I use it too ^_^
Though it's not without its faults - there's loads of files there that don't actually exist and shite like that.

Have you tried WinNY or Share? I couldn't get them to work - possibly because my connection's too crappy by Japanese standards...

Yeah, it can be a pain when 1000 items turn up from your search but only about 50 of them are actually on line but atleast it puts the online ones at the top :)

I haven't tried WinNY yet. I have a feeling you many need the Hikari Fiber line for it which is 100mbps !! My mate has that service and I was amazed at the speed. He downloaded a 1 Gig movie in under 10 minutes !!!! I thought his PC was going to pack up du eto the amount of work the HD had to do.

That reminds me of downloading Bloodsport at 600 KBS on kazaa and it took my 10 megabit connection 24 minutes to pack that file down, so that is my record downloading a file. And I think I should ask my ISP to put the my internetspeed up to 20 Megabit. Since I know my maximum can be 100 megabits thanks to the great Swedes at BBB making my great spanking line :)
