    aight yall

looking for a cheapish japanese Playstation to play on with hookups - no box required.
must work perfectly. would consider a modded system. and if there's a means of playing US games on the unit, please tell.

I would also consider taking a japanese Dreamcast or japanese Gamecube in the same conditions.

ya. I want to play imports.

    pm me.

To Play Imports on your Playstation....

Put in a mod chip...(I hate modchips)

Do a swap trick. You can do it the messy way...(find a faq somewhere) or it can be done much easier if you have an earlier model Playstation with the Expansion I/O port. Cram a gameshark or a pro action replay in there, and it makes a swap VERY easy.

    For your DC...

    Mod Chip...(I hate mod chips...still)

Theres about a bazillion bootdiscs that will allow you to play imports on your DC. Many of them can even be downloaded for free online.

    For your Cube...

I don't know that much about Cube imports...but I know for sure that theres a disc you can buy called Freeloader that allows you to play imports.

thanks for the info. I just needed to know about PSX compatability, I knew about the other 2. so a mod chip for CDRs should work for imports too?

and just an fyi - looking for the original Playstation not the PS2.

yeah, modchips for imports should be fine. Though there was a working JP PS + one game and hookups on ebay.nl and it went for only 12.50e. Also, Yakumo should be able to get you one for 1500-2000 yen.

    Why not use an emulator?

What game is that in your sig Borman?

    Because emulators suck (imo).

Eh, the only way I like playing imports is with an imported system. Any other way seems....inelegant...and that's probably why I don't have many import games...except for PC Engine <3

For cube you just need freeloader (i have one)
For dreamcast you just need an action replay (i have one in backup as dreamcast doesn't need modchip)
For psx the best way is to change the RGB cable and have a modchip. I don't know if action replay works good with psx. There's also a swap trick

In fact, there's even country jumpers on the first model PlayStations but I'm not sure how exactly they should be wired... (the JUE ones)

Some Japanese games won't work/save properly if they're running on a US or PAL cube.
Ideally what you'd want is a US or Japanese cube with a switch mod to toggle between them - and either a FreeLoader or a modchip if you want to play PAL games as well.

Note that you'll need a special lead if you want to get RGB out of an NTSC cube.

You will need a seperate memory card to save japanese games on, as they format the cards differently, presumably using different character coding, or something along those lines.

That's the problem - a Japanese (or US gamecube switched to Japanese mode) will format the cards as Japanese, but a standard US or PAL cube won't. That's why some Japanese games don't save properly with FreeLoader or a modchip.

I won the item at 21 euros, plus 5.50 shipping to me. I'll let you know when I get it, and by the way, do you need the PS2 controller that comes with it? I could use one and I wouldnt mind buying it off you...
