Yup, me too madhatter256. I did it on both my debug PSX's (DTL-H1002 & DTL-H1202). Although I took a laser from a 9000 series PSX for one of them. It has a longer data cable but still works fine.

If you do replace laser on scph 100x models you'll need to use the original laser unit black plastic cover so that the unit fits easier into the playstation housing. The laser cover is held on by 3 super tiny phillips screws but are easily removed.

Surely it's easy enough to get s-video cables that plug into the multi-AV out in non-SCART land? I just make my own, though ^__^

Actually only the 1000 (JPN) original model had S-Video. The 1001 (US) original model did not have S-Video.

The S-Video out on the 1000 series unit is the cleanest of all revisions and as a result it is the most desirable JPN unit.

    keep looking mate!
I had to buy SCPH-1000/5500/7000 when I bought my Green Debugstation since the seller wouldn't sell it alone... :(

now I'm after PSOne laser pickup module to replace mine although it works fine you never know given its age...

www.richpsxparts.com sells China-made replacement lasers for $16.95, anyone got experience with them?
I'm running short on lasers, having 2 reliable ones (stuck the one from PSone in Debug like madhatter and I've got anothre one in my SCPH-7501) and a host of other PSXs without (two SCPH-1002s, a 5500 and a PSOne). Guess all I need is a 900X and one in the 3000 range and I'll own one from each series :smt043
And by the way, you can mod a parallel port into a 900X or a PSone. Ain't no serial port mod for the PSone, though.

I have the instructions at home if you're interested. As far as I recall, there's an adaptor that plugs over the BIOS chip (makes sense as they're in the same address range) and 7 wires to be soldered to the mainboard.

The only PAL and NTSC U/C PlayStation consoles that had the S-video ports were some of the original blue debugging stations. I have a blue PAL debugstation (DTL-H1002) with the s-video output but the green PAL debug station (DTL-H1202) does not.

For some reason Sony must have removed it..........Why? What's the point?

I can guess they wanted to rip off consumers by making them buy the S-video lead that plugged into the AV multi-out port, but why also try and rip off companies developing for your console........?

    Strange!
