Looking to purchase an NES RGB PPU chip.

Hey! I'm flush with paypal cash once again and need a specific esoteric component in working condition. I fully expect its scarity could potentially mean a triple digit price (though I can't confirm that given lack of pricing sources). So if you have info to aid in purchasing one, I will be interested. No lowball offers. No questions asked. Useful comments and questions are of course welcome too.

I believe model RP2C03B or compatible revision is correct. My ultimate goal is to get it installed in a Twin Famicom or AV Famicom. Should it affect which type I want. Let me know! Done right will lead to quite beautiful results on much of the NES library. :love2:

Sounds promising. I'm not yet all that good at communicating with modders. I'll want to be sure I make my request comprehensible so whoever could install the chip will actually agree to perform said work.

Thanks, I try. Way more of a noob than my good grammar suggests. Haha. I guess nobody will miss the leftover motherboard. playchoice 10 games are way expensive and limited selection to be much interest to average users.

 

I think people get bent out of shape about scavenging parts. I see comments about how it's a crime to sacrifice this game, or that board, for one part. Who gives a fuck, there were thousands made at the very least, if not millions. We've got a long way to go before SuperFX carts become precious rarities.

 

It isn't something I'd do lightly, can be wasteful. There isn't always a choice. Some donors as you're saying use special parts available borderline nowhere else.

I think he's just generalising. It's like when people moan about saccing FF3 or Sam Spirits 3 carts for Neo Geo MVS - AES conversions, there's thousands upon thousands of them out there but people still bleat about throwing away and reducing existing stock. If you need a part you need a part, simple as that. If you can't get it off the shelf new then cannibalise. Better for just one component to get some usage than for the complete item to sit doing nothing and wasting away.

 

Nope, didn't win this time around. Eh. I placed a whopper 70GBP bid (as you can see) and someone else had a higher one in place. So I stopped. Didn't want to ignite bid warring.

 

Yeah I assumed he was generalising as I hear it all the time too. Was just strange to mention it in here without saying it was a generalisation

 

Part of it is cultural assumptions of sorts, and modders here lacking equipment to test SCART. It's a bit tricky for us Americans to get taken seriously when we say we want RGB.

Cheap and lets you put RGA scart to VGA

 

I'm NO modder. Not a bad thought anyway, never seen VGA equipped NESs.

 

That just lets you use Scart/RGB on VGA - its a convertor/scaler. Good if you cant get a scart TV over there.

And I didnt mean you directly, just you should get one (yourself, via someone else, etc)

 

Yes, I was generalising, sorry if that wasn't obvious. I do know that a SuperFX game has nothing to do with NES RGB

US folks can get 15.6kHz RGB, either through old broadcast monitors or arcade screens. Or older computer screens (like the Commodore 1084) if you can put up with the tiny ~14" screen size. I guess space is usually the opposite issue though, CRT screens are chunky.

 

Yeah. Being able to use the RGB, I've already got covered. It's a matter of finding someone with time/skill and all (I have ideas who I'll want to message about it). Got quite a to-do list. Still need to upgrade an N64 for RGB. And my SMS2 is a PAL RF only model, pretty much a brick to try playing on this side of the pond in that state.

And yeah, CRT is a pain - that's why I recommended the RGB -> VGA upscaler so you can just use a normal monitor or TV with VGA connection.

Hell, I've had to make one of them too - my TV hates my old consoles
