LSD: Dream Emulator was a game on the PS1 that saw a Japan-Only release in 1998, it's definitely a strange game, I've managed to track down a copy, for 300 Dollars mind you... Anybody else here own a copy? Anybody else here got it on an emulator? This games tough to figure out, and I'd like to see what other people make of it.
Hi Undercoverlover, I've been looking for a good-conditioned copy of this for ages, but it never seems to be within my price range. Pops up on Yahoo! Auctions JP from time to time though: http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w29993264 Now if only it were under 10000 yen...
I'm lucky enough to have found the Limited Edition with the book and soundtrack. http://www.gamebaz.com/index.jsp?a=i&i=26344U http://www.amazon.co.jp/LSD-REMIXES-%E3%82%B2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A0%E3%83%BB%E3%83%9F%E3%83%A5%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF/dp/B00000JA5F/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1307558064&sr=8-7 http://www.amazon.co.jp/アスミック・エース-エ...9TV3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307558064&sr=8-1 Have a look through them, see if you can find a deal. I myself just wanted this game bad. It has a mysterious allure about it. Ken Ishii who did some of the music for LSD (and Rez) is actually quite a good Electronic musician, I recommend you check out "Jelly Tones" by him.
It is a marmite game (I just so happen to like marmite ;D) But where I disagree with you is the randomness, there are certain parts of it which will lead you to the same parts over and over, and what I'm interested in is working out the graph that appears after every dream, how to influence that, and how the rooms/areas you're linked to can decide where you go later. I'm sure it'll just click for me one day.
My PlayStation does not like this game...lol...it started making random VERY VERY high volume/high pitch noises during game play. As if it couldn't load the step noise into memory off the disc properly. Made the game unplayable, gonna try it again in a bit. It's a shame I don't smoke weed any more though, lol...I see what you mean. Wierd
I always prefer hardware when playing PS games, since some of them have glitches in emulation and you're never sure if it's a quirk in the game programming or the emulator glitching, especially when playing a new game. Plus I prefer to play the PS how it was meant to be played, mem cards, discs, pads 'n' all... Also if it's intention was to scare the shit out of me then the game succeeded. I can't describe the noises but they cut in suddenly and were enough to make me shit bricks and have to turn the volume down so low you couldn't hear any of the other sounds in the game (being able to hear my own heart pumping didn't help ether). I hate it when things like that happen as something similar happened to me the other night. I shut my PC down and I'd unplugged the headphones just before I did so, forgetting I'd set the volume to deafening levels on the speakers during the day. Well, the crappy microsoft piano noise going off like a bomb (sub made the floor shake...lol) at 4am not only shit me up enough to keep me awake for another hour, but did me no favours with the neighbours ether. I keep telling myself I'll disable it but I always forget!
LSD scares the shit out of plenty of people, don't worry about it. Show your neighbours the game and see what they make of it! If I'm still awake at 4am, I'll usually skip the whole going to bed thing, haha.
@Xeauron There's a very loud and high pitched noise when this happens. I'll also be posting more screens from my time playing the game too.
I'm also a proud owner of the game. Took me ages to track down a copy for a decent price, but I finally got it for only 9800yen on YAJ (mint). Two copies have been for sale for 12'800yen each for months and when the first seller lowered it to 9800, the other did as well. I've never seen it sell for more than 12000yen, the demand is just too low although it's a rare and unusual game surrounding a small fanscene to this date. There's no "regular edition" though, all copies of LDS are called Genteiban and come with the soundtrack-cd and several sheets of paper that you could refer to as a booklet. I haven't had the chance to play it a little longer, but what I've seen seems to live up to my expectations. Surreal, strange, mystical happenings in a Dalì-esque world. Sometimes the blocky graphics are doing harm to the great atmosphere, but fortunately that's not the case for most of the time. I think it's a really enjoyable and unique experience and it's not "overhyped" in any way. Something this original can't be overhyped, and it works perfectly as what it wants to be: a "dream emulator" with no obvious aim, just exploration and relaxation. Although that coat guy is scaring the shit out of me at times. Or the girl who's head falls off if you approach her... damn!!
I'm pretty sure the white noise I heard wasn't supposed to be there as it happened every time the player walked, in place of the footsteps. I'll give it another go tonight, very trippy game, couldn't make head or tale of what was going on. Though I'm sure that's the point...lol
That's cool, then. I just wanted an excuse to put up some pictures. I do wish it'd receive some kind of next-gen treatment...
lol, no worries... Yeah I might give it a go in an emulator if the hardware has any more trouble reading it. I wouldn't mind but it's burned using Verbatims @ 1x as well. They're usually very reliable media for PS hardware.
I've had EpsxE on this computer since forever. It's great if my friends want to play some games at the same times as me, or if I want to try out a rare game.
