That was my take too. I was really excited about trying it out having seen some promising YouTube vids, but the moment-to-moment experience of it is pretty repetitive and dull and the footstep sound drove me mad. It's kind of a shame, I think this kind of truly weird, trippy game is a long time overdue. On a similar note, I've been trying to track down Wordimagesoundplay or "WISP" for PS2 in any format (for sale, http link or alive torrent) for a while now and drawn a blank, it's a right bastard to find. Supposed to be pretty strange, though.
Yeah, that footstep noise is annoying as hell (seems like 10 footstep sounds where 2 would do), and it does seem like you're wading through custard when you try to move in game so I see what you mean.
It is an unusual game with no idea what the goal is. On the PS1 you can play it with a mouse or Nyco trackball.
I wonder if there's an easy way to kill the footstep sound. I'd have put a lot more time into it if there was a way to get rid of that.
I imagine you'd have to find the audio on the disc and replace it with a dummy file instead or blank audio. I'll have a look at the image in a mo to see if this would be straight forward to do. EDIT: Well there is a sound directory on there (X:\CDI\SND) with various files, it would be woth having a poke and testing in an emulator I think.
I briefly played it after downloading it. Very strange and haven't touched it since then. I hope the CDR i burned it onto didn't rot yet....
I've just had another go of it, and it worked properly this time. I must say, not sure how much more I'll be playing this one as it's almost indecipherable. No idea what that weird face/grid thing is, no idea where I'm going or what's happening, also some Japanese writing pops up every now and then - no idea what that says. LOL!
I've just been mindfucked too, man... This is supposed to be one of the faces either side of the see through bridge.
As for the footstep noises, well, I guess the creators of the game decided that it was so visually stimulating that noone would really notice the footstep noises.
Haha, I have to say that PS1 graphics, pretty as they are, aren't that stimulating. I can see why this is a Marmite game now. I could sit there for hours if I was still a bag head just walking around and checking things out. However, to the sober mind this game has little to offer except annoyance in several small portions, which all build up to one massive portion of piss off. I've tried to get into this game, and I like to think I have an open mind where things like this are concerned. However, it's just plain laborious as a game (no clear objective, no structure). A dream for a stoner/crack head, a boring misnomer for your average person.
I don't think you can look at it from a game perspective, or at least, if you do you'll definitely be disappointed. It's not really a game at all.
Video games were practically invented to play stoned. My friend once got high and played GTA: San Andreas, he spent hours on the same BMX just getting his bike skill up...
I happen to have this on Dreamcast Bleemed, it is pretty fucking kool. Highly recommended. I don't call this a game, more like an experience.
I was wondering if anyone ever snagged that Bleem copy I made... It's definitely a hell of an experience. Very engrossing (I thought).
