Recommendations on some decent Mac OSX based spyware removal tools is what I am looking for. I haven't ever had a problem with anything like this, but a friend of mine is having some issues with her powerbook. It seems to randomly try to redirect her to odd websites and tells her she needs to restart the system. I'll have a better look at it and more info sunday afternoon. In the mean time I though I could start compiling a decent package of spyware removal and antivirus softwares.

Ok I have this system sitting in front of me and here is what it is doing. It seems that she mis-stated the problem a bit. When using safari, if you log into a web based mail client and attempt to send anything at all safari just crashes and throws this error message.
    "The application safari quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click reopen to open the application again. Click report to see more details or send a report to apple."

It seems that the above mentioned symptoms occured a few weeks ago followed by this. Housecall finds absolutely nothing wrong so I have no idea what caused this.

Right now the system is running OS X 10.4.11 and I tried to upgrade it. I cannot get any upgrades to install.

I guess it's just not working...

Honestly I use both on a daily basis. I seem to have a dualistic office atmosphere running here now that I think about it. I've got a Mac running OSX on one end of my desk and a PC running Windows 2000 on the other. An Ibook and an XP laptop and an iPhone and a Palm based pda. Surprisingly they all get regular use.

it might be a hardware issue ,

try to use Apple Hardware Test tool for checking it.

Try re-seating the RAM in the machine if the Hardware Test doesn't pick up anything.

Try trashing some Safari cache files:

    [home]/Library/Cache/Safari/*
    [home]/Library/Safari/Icons/*

If that fails, reset Safari (Safari->Reset Safari) THIS WILL DELETE THE USER'S BOOKMARKS - be sure to back them up first.

If that doesn't work try using a different browser, such as Firefox or Camino and see if the same page crashes. Safari might just be choking on the HTML or AJAX.

My mistake, I thought it did. *shrug* still a good idea to back them up anyway.
