Just because people across the internet use a term incorrectly doesn't make it correct. I'll redefine the word "the" to mean "a word of universal offense that crosses cultural and linguistic barriers" but that doesn't make it so. This thread is like putting a "WARNING: THIS BEVERAGE IS HOT" sticker on a coffee cup. On top of that you present yourself as somewhat of an authority but since you're using terminology incorrectly I can conclude you aren't an authority; admittedly this is annoying after having spent years correcting misinformation spread by people too proud to admit they absorbed incorrect information (I'm looking at you Haunted). There are differences between your average "ROM" and "disc image". Just because the public at large confuses the two doesn't mean you should too. Hell there is a difference between 'disc' and 'disk' very few people even bother with figuring out anymore. The public also confuses their, there, they're; loose and lose and a whole slew of things. Should we too bow before their brilliance? If a horse and a car get my stuff to the same destination does it matter what I call the object providing locomotion? Hint: it sure does if you don't want me shoeing your car or gasing up your horse.
Most PS2 solutions don't help PS1 mode. For those who like minimizing the number of consoles they keep set up, it's a substantial portion of the games available.
To put it short, use the proper terminology if you want to be taken serious here. Otherwise we throw you into the same class as "those 6 year COD playing sailor-envy-cursing assholes".
How large is a complete Playstation or Saturn ROMset (or whatever else you prefer to term it as)? A console add-on device that read the files from off a hard drive would be great, but I'm curious to know what size hard drive would be needed, ideally. And for anyone who's used a Playstation emulator for a while, do Playstations cope well with accelerated loading, or do they have to keep the loading in real time (which would negate a large part of loading the games from a hard drive instead of the console's internal CD drive)?
I don't care about the terminology but I really would like to see a device that plugs directly into the optical system's ribbon connector for both PS1 and Saturn to allow running disc images off HDD or maybe Flash. Particularly the PS1. The Saturn seems built like a tank and I haven't generally had an issues with it where as I imagine most of us have had some loading issues on a PS1 at some point. FMV skip or music skip atleast.
Many, many gigs especially if you include all regions. Not as big as a full MAME set with CHDs but still large enough to not fit on a single PSP memory stick. Most games work just fine with accelerated loading but some do have issues that rely on that drive for specific timing. Same here. Out of every Saturn I've seen I have one Saturn with drive issues but they only cropped up after I installed a region free BIOS. A drop in for the PS1 would be great.
