I recently bought a complete set of NGC magazine from EBay for the pricely sum of £0.99p (£9.98 including postage).

They have turned up and are in excellent condition and I would like them to stay that way if possible. I don't smoke so they won't get damaged that way and the blinds in my games room will always nearly be closed (When I finish it) but I was after any other ideas people have on how to keep them nice!

Is there plastic covers you can buy to keep them in?

The only problem with keeping them in a box is that they get that funny cardboard smell after a while which transfers onto the magazines themselves.

I suppose I could get one of those plastic boxes!

I've got several plastic boxes full of magazines going back to the mid 80s and they are doing ok. Make sure you get lids!

Also, stop sniffing your magazines! :fresh:

There are magazine sized slip covers just like the ones comic books
are put into. I payed 10 cents for mine at a local book store to put
my minty Famitsu Biohazard 4 special edition in.

Mylar bags and acid free paper backs

Any comic store should have them

    Nononononono!

NEVER store magazines in a cardboard box, or a sealed plastic box. They need to breathe.

Spot778 has the right idea - treat them like comics. Put them in acid free archival bags (Mylar are the expensive ones, there are cheaper poly bags), and if you don't want spine roll, use acid free backing boards. For the good quality stuff, this could end up costing $1 per magazine or more.

Store them in a cool, dry, dark atmosphere. You can get acid-free comic storage boxes that will work well. Comics hate excessive heat (e.g. sunlight, excessive central heating) and high humidity. Keeping them out of sunlight is an obvious, you don't want them fading!

Incidentally, they can't be totally sealed from air, so if you do this, it is a good idea to take them out of the bags to 'air' every few years. Most collectors would actually change the bags at this point, especially if the cheaper bags are used.

*EDIT* Kiff, you're in the UK, so I'd highly recommend Incognito Comics in Canterbury. If you're down this way, awesome! Dave will sort you out. If not, they have mail order.
