Just a quick question, can I make a coders cable using one of these SD card adapters? http://dc-sd.com/p/1/dreamcast-sd-adapter-dreamcast-sd-cardreader

I do not want to buy and destroy one of these only to find out there is issues with using one. I also have my motherboard's serial pins piggybacked to an SD card reader, will this cause any issues? Or as long as the SD card is not inserted it will not be used?

    Thanks

Of Course you can, but these SD Card reader connector made from HDMI cable connector.
In any case i think you can't use coders cable with Dreamcast Windows CE SDK. Dreamcast Windows CE SDK and Katana SDK need to be connected to Katana Dev. Box for Debugging.
As i know coders cable supported only on KOS SDK.

I don't think it's an hdmi connector. I think it's a PCI express slot (or maybe agp?) cut down the middle so only one row is used.

If I've tied my internal serial pins to an SD reader, does the Coders Cable still work? (more what you asked I think)

It's 100% based on hdmi connector, but AGP can be used to make connector for DC serial port.

I'll probably just piggyback the serial pins on the motherboard of a spare Dreamcast because I'd imagine I'd have a higher chance of melting the likely fragile/cheap plastic on the SD adapter than just hardwiring it

Edit: @Bad_Ad84 can this http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...x6HGNw3GnA==&gclid=CI2hoYGquMsCFYE9gQodRyYCUA be used in place of the MAX3222CPN mentioned here http://mc.pp.se/dc/serifc.html ? I did not search very hard but those were the only similar chips I got as a result and in stock

Yes, the suffix is usually package and operating temp range

In the case of Maxim, the "+" means "RoHS compliant", so there is no problem with using it (and you can still use SnPb solder if you want).

One last question, I've never fiddled with breadboard before, Is there a type of breadboard that does not require a different schematic for soldering in parallels? Meaning just a base board so I can place the capacitors and MAX chip neatly to make wiring a little easier?

Edit: Any recommendations for 9 pin dsub serial to usb adapter cables or a serial card that will work in a virtual machine would be nice also. None of the computers I can do this with have serial ports but one remains unchecked (do not feel like unhooking and removing PC from desk right now). Can I use a serial extension cable in the mix as well without issues?

Also, I did not plan on needing this much advice, but also I need electrolytic capacitors yeah? Or another type? Edit2: I'm going to make a new thread elsewhere because I have more questions regarding general soldering, but maybe others will have answers to these coder cable specific questions
